Default Spam - Treet - & Pork Brains - with Eggs

Since we have talked about collard greens some, how many of you grew up on "Spam - Treet - Pork Brains with eggs"? I have eaten a lot of spam and treet over the years when I was growing up and simply ate it because I was hungry and that's what my mother put on the table and it was eat this or go to bed hungry. The "Pork Brain & Eggs" were served at my favorite grandpa's house and I would eat it because he had it mixed in with his eggs. I did not know then what I was eating and it must have tasted pretty good as I had it for a long time and must have been about 9 or 10 before I realized what it was I was eating. Grandpa passed away when I was ten years old, but he ate just about anything that "walked - squawked - or crawled" as did most people that had lived through the great depression.

I have never had pork brains and eggs, but many times hash at bbq places is made from it. Now, I know that “hash” recipes can be very different from place to place, but most are made up of various pig insides including brains. I love hash. I eat a lot of venison and always thought about taking the brain when I cut off the antlers and mix the brain with some eggs.

I’ve eaten Spam before. It’s really good fried in a pan, but I’m not a fan when it’s not cooked.

    Yes to all 3.

    I haven't eaten Pork brains & eggs since I was a kid.
Treat and/or Spam was a regular growing up and it is definitely better fried.

Oh man! Spam with scrambled eggs thrown on top of a bowl of grits! Yum, Yum!

I actually use the Aldi version of spam - just as good and less expensive!

I started with spam as an adult but find treet a similar yet less expensive alternative. Tastes the best fried. My father loved pork brains and eggs but to my knowledge I haven't had them (yechh!) though I see them on the grocery store shelves all the time.

Brains and eggs was one of my mom's favorites. If we are going to discuss those, don't forget those old country store favorites, Souse, scrapple and hog head cheese.

I asked someone what he put in his hash one time, he said everything but the squeal.

Ate all 3 growing up. I’ll still fry up some Treet once in a blue moon. We also ate enormous amounts of “Bulk Sausage” in the can from Beverly.

My fiancée is Hawaiian so sometimes we make rice, eggs, and fried spam.

I don’t willingingly eat pig brains but I don’t have any reservations against it. I am not a potted meats man On average.

I loved spam n eggs growing up....reminds me of camping. My wife is revolted by the very idea of spam, so I haven't had it in awhile. I may have to rebel similarly to the way I've eaten hash, corned beef & hash, and scrapple and just eat it without her thanks to this thread.

    Liver mush, anyone??

My wife loves the stuff. It is liver and cornmeal, similar to scrapple etc. I am pretty anti liver anything but if its sliced thin and fried crispy in bacon grease it is not bad.

I am not a fan of liver pudding and you don't see it made as much as you use too. Some of the people who sell a lot of vegetables and such - would also make liver pudding - chow chow - and other things that Southern People grew up on. A lot of this stuff is going away as people and their taste buds move on or get more refined.
