    Default Tim Canway Has Died

Tim Conway, who you probably remember from his years on The Carol Burnett Show, and as Ensign Parker on McCales Navy has passed away at the age of 85.

Man he was one of the funniest guys in the business. He would break up the entire cast on that show during the skits. Harvey Korman would be red-faced from holding it in trying not to laugh and would finally lose it.

I remember really enjoying him and Don Knotts on Disney's Apple Dumpling gang growing up. Only later did I discover his other work, like on the Carol Burnett Show ....masters of their craft.

    "Piece of cake."

    "You mean it's not gold?"

Oh and since nobody has asked yet. Who's Tim Canway?

Great at whatever he did. I remember watching McHale's Navy when I was a little fellow and always seeing the funny, bumbling, Tim Conway. I know he did a lot of other things and he could be as funny as anyone. The Comedy World will truly miss this great guy.

Before making his mark in Hollywood, Conway studied TV and radio at Bowling State University and enlisted in the Army, where is goofiness already shone through. In the L.A. Times interview, he remembered misplacing his rifle before a 4 a.m. drill.

“I looked in the garbage and there was this long neon tube,” he remembered. “So I took that. As the lieutenant came around the corner. I said, ‘Halt.’ I am pointing this bulb at him and he said ‘What is that?’ I said, ‘It’s a light bulb and if you come any closer, I’ll turn it on.’ He had very little sense of humor. I spent an extra two weeks [in the service] painting rocks in Seattle.”

Everyone who has ever gone through a military boot camp knows why that is funny is as hell.

Those vaudeville-style shows like Carol Burnett have long disappeared but I think they could make a comeback with the right talent.
