Default Dickey's BBQ in South Carolina

I heard someone speaking about this franchise type of BBQ Restaurant. I think that there are about 13 in SC and maybe 18 in GA. Has anyone in the Gamecock Nation ever been to one and were you pleased with your BBQ or is it just another franchise place that is "so-so" when it comes to good Southern BBQ???

I've been to one of teh Orlando locations a couple of times. Even have their yellow refil cup. It is just OK Q. By Florida standards it is acceptable. By SC standards a big fail. We are finally getting a couple of decent local joints but they still do not measure up to the best that the Carolinas have to offer.

My friend, Shealy's is still great. Their BBQ is fair, but I go for all the other stuff that they serve like the "fried chicken" and many outstanding vegetables. Took two of my older grandsons with me the last time and I think the 16 year old ate about 12 pieces of chicken and the 14 year old had about 10. Of course they both had about two large bowls of the "cream corn" and they absolutely tore up the ice cream machine as they went back so many times I just quit counting. I remember when I could go there and eat two large plates, but those days are over for me now as one large one will ruin me for the rest of the day. I however do lose money on the wife as she pretty much hits the salad bar and gets one or two vegetables to make me feel better. Miss Rose is still working there and has finally started taking Saturdays off now. She has been there for about 30 years and is the sweetest and nicest lady you could ever meet. I always try to sit in her section when I go. Mr. Shealy is making so much money now that "they gave away a brand new Chevrolet Pick-Up and it was a nice one". I think they were celebrating their 50th year??? I will eat a "Pulley Bone" for you the next time I go!!!

Two words that should never go together Bar-b-que and franchise.

I've been to one in NC.

It wasn't bad per-say. But I've had much better - both made at home and out at independent joints. And the whole thing about it being a chain kind of ruins it. I would much rather go to a real BBQ place.

Since I have never been there, is this place kind of like a "Famous Dave's" or Sony's BBQ?

I've never been to either of those two. Think Chipotle but with smoked meets. It was fine overall but I would much rather go to a local mom & Pop BBQ joint.

Staley's BBQ in Greensboro was decent when I lived there but my all-time fav is still Piggy Park. I stop every time I go home (James Island).
