History Channel

Is it just me or has the History Channel gone completely downhill. I love this channel because of a having one of my degrees in history but I just saw a commercial that Larry the Cable Guy is doing a show on America. I can't stand this inbred redneck and now with his negative IQ try to talk about American History give me a break. Along with Ice Road Truckers, Top Shot, Swamp People, Axmen are the most asinine ideas for shows. And I'm starting to believe that they are buying into the whole end of the world thing in 2012.

They're trying to latch onto the reality series type genre to more or less avoid getting left behind IMO. They probably perceive that viewers will leave them if they don't offer what every other channel is offering these days.

isnt that the point? it is the HISTORY channel.... just sayin. i do miss the "history" shows. now i see "what-ifs" "reality".

FYI, Larry The Cable Guy is just an act. The guy is from Nebraska and the whole thing is a show...from his outfit to his accent.

At any rate, while I don't feel like Ice Road Truckers or Axmen are exactly history-based shows...they don't have a real place on other channels. It fills a slot and attracts people to the channel.

Pawn Stars is a reality show...but I'd go nuts if they took it off the air. It also includes some interesting history as well.

But yeah, History Channel isn't about history anymore. If you want history nowadays, it's the Military Channel, but even with that you're only getting history on mostly recent wars(WWI, WWII, Korea, etc.). Wouldn't be surprised if it was rebranded soon.

Actually "Larry the Cable Guy" is his stage name & character. His real name is Dan Whitney and he's not as stupid as you think he is - that's just him in character. His college roommates who were from the South taught him to perfect his southern (or country) accent.

But for real, I LOVE the History Channel. Some of the best shows on TV. And even shows like Pawn Stars, American Pickers, etc. tell a TON about the history of the items in the show.

I do enjoy Ice Road Truckers but it is definitely not about History. I think they have changed their tune away from History.

I used to love the Modern Marvels show when it first came out . But that has gone downhill when they started running out of Idea. "Tonight on Modern Marvels... The Pyramids of Egypt!" WTF??? Since when are the pyramids considered a Modern Marvel?

I have a history degree and 100 percent agree. I used to be able to throw History on when nothing else was on and I knew that I would learn something, or at least get to watch about something I already knew about. Now there are so few history shows and great documentaries on there that it depresses me.

It sucks, but the reason why its like that is due to ratings. People are watching the things you guys are complaining about more than "history" shows.

I figured The History Channel was trying to push everyone to History International. I never see anything I want to watch on THC, but always stuff I'd like to see on HI, but don't get it with my satellite package.
