Omaha Eight:Week Eight...

1. Florida—No, the Gators not at the top of the polls, but let’s face it, how can anyone count them out of Omaha?
2. Florida State—If they weren’t 0-3 against Florida right now, the Seminoles would probably occupy the top spot.
3. Kentucky—Another solid week, another week of believing. There’s no doubt the Wildcats are for real, but are they Omaha real?
4. Texas A&M—The Aggies swept a decent Oklahoma team and did so with really good pitching and timely hitting. Sound like a post-season formula?
5. Stanford—The Cardinal recovered nicely last week. Can they keep it up through the end of the season?
6. Arizona—It was another series win for the Wildcats, but it wasn’t the most impressive week. Are we seeing holes in this team?
7. South Carolina—The Gamecocks continue to win series and have recovered nicely from the early SEC bump in the road.
8. LSU—I may have been the last person in the country to buy into the Tigers, but I’m buying it after last weekend. That was impressive.

I agree if we win this weekend series, we should not drop out. Yes, the FMU loss was incredibly embarassing and no matter what people want to say, there is no excuse to lose to a team like that. However, it is a weekday game a day after we played another weekday game. We did not throw our best pitchers, and the voters realize this. Remember last year when Florida could not win any midweek games it seems? The weekend games are the ones that matter at this point.

Unless we move up in the SEC standings, it will not matter what we do in midweek games... we will be playing in a regional on the road... You can bank on that...

If we cant finish in the top 10 in the SEC... we do not deserve to go anywhere...

I think we are probably gonna end up right in the middle of the pack (5th would be my guess)... making us a borderline team to host a regional..

I don't see the comments in this thread as being "chicken little". We're simply stating facts as they are today (based on past experiences of following college baseball for 30 years). Also, we all know that said facts could change in the blink of an eye.

Many folks seem to be focusing on what losing last night does to our hosting chances while ignoring the larger picture that if we don't improve in the SEC, what we do in midweeks is moot. Those of us who can be rational are simply pointing this out to help folks keep their heads about them when we lose these midweeks. There are bigger fish to fry right now than the FMUs of the world.

We lost last night. We're over it and looking at the big picture. There is much more important baseball to be played. Learn what you can from games like last night, and apply it to help winning the weekends.

No offense here but this is exactly why I hate preseason polls in any sport. Yeah it is benefitting us right now. We didn't really beat anybody in non conference play and are at the bottom of the SEC standings. Can you really tell me that you think we are the #7 team in America right now? Don't get me wrong, this team CAN be really good but we still have a lot of meat on the bone before we deserve to be in this conversation.

I'd say more 13-18 range. Which puts us in prime position to play our way into or out of hosting a Regional. I think if we're borderline at seasons end, with our recent past success (and I think I heard Eric Hyman is on the selection committee for baseball postseason) we will probably get the nod.

But like eagle said, we still have major work to do. We need to at least continue winning SEC series and a sweep or two would be nice.

well if we are in between 13-18 then we are most likely hosting a regional. top 16 host regionals, so unless we are 17 and 18 we wouldn't have to play ourselves into a regional

Not always. There have been 1 seeds in a regional that had to travel because for whatever reason the 1 seed could not host. If memory serves, Wake Forest was the 1 seed when they came to The Sarge.
