Ok, everybody at some point or another has served as a makeshift "bartender". Either at your place with the guys, at a party, hosting a dinner event, at a cookout, at a tailgate, etc. Unfortunately there are some people (poor, lost souls I might add) in the world that just don't like beer... sad but true. Along with those people, there's also those days where you want something with a little more
than a beer offers. For those days, you check your liquor collection and go to work. And that's exactly what this thread is for. Recommendations, tips/tricks, ideas, requests, and most importantly... recipes. I figure that with football season quickly approaching, signaling the start of "tailgate season"... it's about time to get this thread started. Have at it boys.

High Roller
Dry Ginger Ale (blenheims is best, canada dry is suffice) Bourbon of your choice (fighting cock for me, or jack) mix 1 to 1 ratio. put in like a lime wedge or lemon wedge to add a little mroe flavor.

I know mine doesn't sound that great, but i like my drinks strong, in fact it is a good substitute for you bourbon and coke drinkers when you want something a little different. I didn't used to make it that strong and you don't have to, but i was at a tournament and a little bartendress made it that strong...i was very happy.

i was a bartender at a high volume bar in the vista during college...i'll try and think of some beverages to post later
but for now, let me say one thing- if you're playing 'bartender' wherever you're at...learn how to pour a beer. its the simplest thing in the world, and yet when others pour me a beer, i find a cup or glass that is half head, causing the beer to be flat once it has settled. its pretty much why i dont drink draft beer anymore...because most people are too stupid, lazy, or both to pour it correctly. |

Southern & Dr. Pepper
Very sweet, but will mess you up. I also like a Gin & Tonic. |

oldie but a goodie...
Irish Car-bomb half a shot of bailey's half a shot of irish whiskey (preferrably jameson) drop the shot glass into a half-pint of guiness chug immediately- its best to compete against friends to see who can finish theirs first not great for hot days, but a late night drink, or something in the fall when it cools down, is quite nice. |

For those noon or 1 oclock football games, and you've got to start tailgating EARLY...
Fill a shot glass mostly with Jameson Top it off with a little Butterscotch Schnapps Take the shot and immediately chase it with a shot of OJ Tastes just like a pancake breakfast. |

Dry Martini-
Gin, Vermouth, Olive Juice & Olives If you make it any other way it is NOT a Martini. I also like mine shaken, you can not get it cold enough if you stir it. |

If you are local, hunt down Cardinal Gin. It's small batch made in NC and very good.

Always liked B-52s...
1 part Kahlua, then 1 part Bailey's (poured over a cold bar spoon), then 1 part Grand Marnier (same method as the Baileys layer) ![]() Also liked Chocolate Cake (freaked me out that it actually tasted like chocolate cake) 1 oz Frangelica (hazelnut liqueur) 1/2 oz vodka lemon wedge dipped in sugar Mix the liquors, shoot, bite the lemon ;-)

Did you get ahold of 'em?

Usually I drink Whiskey neat or on the rocks, depending on what I'm drinking. Sometimes when I feel like getting fancy with my bourbon I'll make a Manhattan, my all time favorite mixed drink.
How I make mine: Rocks Glass filled with ice Bourbon 3/4 of the glass (Bulleit, Eagle Rare, Elijah Craig, Four Roses Single Barrell, Evan William Black Label are all nice bourbons in the $20-$30 range). Dash of Bitters, Sweet Vermouth, and a Maraschino Cherry will do the trick. I can drink these any time, day or night.

for the Preakness 1.5 oz whiskey (or bourbon) .75 oz sweet vermouth 1/2 tsp benedictine herbal liqueur 1 dash bitters 1 twist of lemon peel (whenever I order it at Speakeasy's the guy always puts an orange peel instead of lemon peel and a cherry) Pretty Damn Good.
