Coach K scared after UVA fans storm court... UVA???

After last night's game:

"When we've lost in the last 20 years, everybody rushes the court," Krzyzewski said, as quoted by The Associated Press, insisting he was raising a concern but not trying to take away from Virginia's victory. "Whatever you're doing, you need to get the team off first. Celebrate, have fun, obviously you won. That's cool, but just get our team off the court and our coaching staff before students come on."


Duke has lost four games this season, each on the road -- defeats at North Carolina State, at Miami and at Maryland preceded Thursday's loss. Fans stormed the court at every venue.


"Look, do you know how close you are to -- just put yourself in the position of one of our players or coaches," Krzyzewski said, according to the Raleigh News & Observer. "I'm not saying any fan did this, but the potential is there all the time for a fan to just go up to you and say, 'Coach you're a [expletive],' or push you or hit you. And what do you do? What if you did something? That would be the story. We deserve that type of protection.


"I'm always concerned about stuff like that, especially at this time of the year. What if that happened and we get a kid suspended? That becomes the national story. It's not all fun and games when people are rushing the court, especially for the team that lost. Again, congratulations to them, and they should have fun and burn benches and do all that stuff. I'm all for that. They have a great school, great kids, but get us off the court. That's the bottom line."

First off, he sounds a little bitchy.

Second, with all due respect coach, it's UVA... I mean what are they gonna do, goose you? Hit you with their 401-K paperwork? Spill a vanilla latte on one of your players? If you get in an unsafe situation with an unruly UVA fan, just threaten them that you're going to take away the keys to dad's Benz if they don't back off and you should be in the tunnel safely.

Didnt read it like that...sounded like to me that he is just asking for more protection from the NCAA...not bc he or his coaches are scared of students...but bc if a student decides to do or say something...the coaches would just have to take it and couldn't protect themselves bc they are in the national spotlight. Coach K is one of the most respected if not THE most respected coach I the country...he is just tellin it like it is

sounded bitchy to me too, but he does have a point...sounded like sour grapes after a loss. Though he is a great coach, I think it was a mistake to take this public. This is something that he should adress with the NCAA or the ACC privately. I am afraid that he will recive some taunting b/c of this.

I've been thinking to years that continuing to storm the court / field is a risky decision by schools. Huge liability.

The 66-year-old Krzyzewski stopped and hollered an F-bomb at a fan before security could drag him away. Right behind the Hall of Fame coach were his players, some cursing at fans, some ignoring it and ducking into the hallway. Assistant coach Jeff Capel went back and yelled a few curse words while another assistant coach, Steve Wojciechowski, did his best to quickly usher players into the safe area.

Do you REALLY think dropping the F-Bomb was the worst thing being said on the court? Do you REALLY think thousands of drunk UVA fans ran onto the court and said "Great game Coach K"

Player and coaches emotions are running high immediately following a game and when you throw some drunk idiot jumping and pushing and screaming and saying everything under the son in your face ... yeah, the likely hood of you or anyone else simply walking away is slim.

Duke has a long tradition of turning out arrogant wimps. My father used to tell the story from the Korean war in which his company returned to base after a brutal winter campaign and got into it with the college boys who spent the whole battle hanging out at the base. I don't remember all the details, but I do remember that he said that one of them uttered the line "They don't send us to fight because they can't afford to lose us.". That whole group was from Duke and my father hated that school with a passion because of it.

So the bottom line is that I view coach K's remarks as just another look into their sense of superiority and entitlement, i.e. they should never have to suffer the fear of bumping into opposing fans. If they don't want to get the floor rushed, they should just win the games.
