I'm guessing it is because Auburn has a recent national title, and is probably a more profitable national brand. You also have a young, exciting offense and a profitable face in Cam Newton (yes, he is still a big part of the branding of Auburn).

It still goes back to the fact there is just TOO MUCH MONEY in D1A football.
From the TV contracts to the bowl payouts, to the clothing.

College football is a big business now, and yet the main workers get virtually no reimbursement from their performance.
