Default Sterling receives lifetime ban, $2.5 million fine

and the NBA will push for him to sell the team. They came down hard on him. See more info below.

Original post on this was deleted. However, most of us don't have access to the political forum and this is HUGE sports news and an incredible precedent set for major sports. It's worthy of discussion here.

Wow this was a setup by Magic Johnson to get a shot at buying the team. Another reason the NBA is a joke.

I wonder what kind of punishment Larry Johnson is going to get for saying there should be an all black league

I thought the same thing, seems fishy he went after sterlings girl and then was one of the first to criticize on twitter. Then he magically wants to buy the team.

I'm so glad to hear that others are thinking this as well. I just think its a little too convenient that the man who wants to buy the team is the same man that was in the picture that started the whole discussion.

I don't get it. I mean I would think the guy would have eventually had to step down and/or sell the franchise just because the players would boycott the franchise.

Obviously, his personal views are considered to be in poor taste in the U.S. in 2014 by a lot of people... but it seems like the NBA really went overboard on this one. I mean you're basically banning and fining an 80 year old man for being racist. WTF.

I mean, what's next? Is a disgruntled employee going to record a 70 year old owner saying he thinks homosexuality is a sin? This just seems kind of wrong.

You're damn right they are.

Your age doesn't give you the right to act like a bigot, and get a pass.

The Media does, and there are some recent incidents that prove that, the OK Track player getting shot while running is one incident, that got labeled as a tragedy by most of the media, when it was blatant racism.

Your crazy. Other races say and do some of the most racist things that happen in America but nothing is said or done about it. Its always placed on the white man. Im not saying he was right but where is the punishment for Larry Johnson's all black league crap. I mean look no further than Columbia, SC. There is a Black Times newspaper. Do you know how racist that would be considered if it was the other way around? Slavery is over. I didn't own slaves and don't know anyone who was a slave. Its time to get past that crap and quit using it as an excuse and hold people responsible for there actions, instead of them hiding behind race. If its not okay for one race to do it then its not okay for another race to do it. Plain and simple.

It's really much simpler than this, it's just about the money. The NBA is a business, and they can't afford to keep him anymore. Players won't want to play for him, coaches won't want to coach for him, and numerous fans won't show up to the games. And all of this is due to his views being made public. You can argue that the way they were made public was wrong, but that is what they are, and it is detrimental to the league from a financial standpoint.

So the solution is simple, he can't be a part of it anymore. He is free to think whatever he wants, no one is throwing him in jail. But what he thinks can have consequences on who wants to associate with him, and in this case he is part of a business that requires sponsorships, fans and players, none of which want to be near him now.

Wow! Really think CNN could have found somebody else with an NBA background other than Isiah Thomas to discuss the Sterling issue with. Getting commentary from someone convicted of sexual harassment about someone being a racist doesn't really mesh well.

If he really hurt the league then they would have gotten him out years ago when Elgin Baylor sued him for the same thing he made the comments about. They got him out this time because he made a racist comment about black people in a league that is 90% black. And some vindictive woman that owed him over a million dollars exposed him to get back at him.

I personally think the league might have overstepped. I think you would have to ask David Stern why he was allowed to stay. His comments hurt the entire league which is why he is gone. He will fight. I want to know if the owners vote will be anonymous. The same owners kept him in and I wonder if they would keep him in if their names weren't attached. They definitely reacted to a sensationalized comment not the systematic nature he has shown.

I don't get why she is supposedly vindictive towards him? she got 2 bentleys, a ferrari, a range rover and a 1.4 million apartment. His wife is who is suing her not him. I also like how she is claiming that he has not expectation of privacy because she is the archivist and records everything. She has a 100 hours of recordings.

Well there are a few big differences. First, there was no recording to go by. Whether you like how it was obtained or not it exists, and Sterling admitted it was his voice.

Second, Baylor lost his lawsuit, to most that means there was not enough evidence to win and therefore they tend to move on.

Third, the lawsuit was in 2003. We live in a pretty drastically different world than in 2003. Clay Aiken was gay about 6 years before it guaranteed you even more stardom, but in 2003 he pretty much went away and I think he's now running for office in NC.

Fourth, the Clippers sucked back then, and better teams get more coverage. If the same had been said about the Lakers in 2003, more digging would have been done. As it was, very few really cared and the story moved on.

Because of his age, this is similar to the Paterno situation.
