Default Comcast wifi data limits in select markets

Comcast has begun trialing data limits on internet usage in select markets including Atlanta, Augusta, Savannah & Charleston SC. I received a phone call & email alerting me I was @ 90% of my limit in 15 days. Anyone know if AT&T or others have this limit? I'm in SC but considered Augusta market. Also as far as I know we have not gotten the SEC network either. Satellite companies are hitting neighborhoods with flyers trying to gain business saying they will carry it.

Comcast are the Clemson of internet/tv suppliers. They think they are good, but nobody likes / respects them.

Dishnet has similar data limits.

Wait how are they tracking just your wifi data usage? Do you have to use a Comcast supplied wireless router with their service? I could see them tracking your total data usage with the modem firmware but why would they care just about your wifi data usage as opposed to your overall?

Yes it is total data although I refered to it as wifi. That is the only way we use internet in our home as we have no hardwired conn
ections. I wonder if our Comcast phone uses data toward this limit?

Is this considered DSL? I'm not sure we have Uverse in my area.

Uverse is basically high speed DSL yes. They provide you a modem that emitts Wifi so you don't have to buy a router. They do not have data limits either, as far as I know. Never had a problem, except for the crappy customer service, but that is everywhere.

It is fiber. I switched to it a few years back.

It's really a hybrid fiber / dsl system.

It is fiber to your neighborhood, but then switches to DSL for the last bit to you house using the traditional phone line. This increases the speed significantly over traditional DSL because it very much reduces the distance it has to run on the old copper phone wiring.

I have had it for about 3-4 years and have been very pleased with the quality of service. Though customer service is horrible, like they all are.

They may be updating to all fiber networks soon. AT&T just ran fiber in our neighborhood. They dug up my front yard about a month ago and technicians have been working to connect all of the houses. I am seriously considering dumping Comcast after 24 years of being a customer.

Exactly. I have Verizon FiOS, and it is fully fiber to the home...or FTTP (Fiber To The Premises) versus Uverse (Fiber To The Node).

Best provider I have ever had. I pay for 15/5 and usually get 25mbps down and 7-10 up. Also really cheap...that internet service plus HD cable and phone (unlimited long distance) is $89 plus taxes and fees. Usually puts me at about $105 per month.

For $10 extra a month, I could increase my internet connection to 50mpbs down and 25mbps up. I have a PS3, Roku, and 4-5 other mobile devices being used in the house at all time and never had an issue...streaming and all. Haven't had a real reason to upgrade yet.

They do actually. Check the fine print on your service. It's 250 GB a month.

False. That was targeted towards DSL users. No U-Verse user has ever been hit with that restriction. This was a common misconception a few years back but has been cleared up. That is not to say that they won't implement such a charge in the future. The push now, however, is to charge content providers such as Netflix an access fee. Such actions have been illegal in the past but the demise of net neutrality has allowed these companies to limit what we see based on how much people pay them. Hopefully the new rules will give us back a free Internet but these companies are showering big bucks on Washington to deny that.

Sorry, but you're wrong. It's in the TOS. They might not be enforcing it, but it's there if they need it.

If you read reddit tons of people are saying they are starting to enforce it in more and more markets. They are looking at the traffic and if they think you are bittorrenting then they are enforcing it big time. One of my buddies lives in Jacksonville and he got a letter about it when he went over a few months ago. He was pissed because last year they came out with some thing saying that uverse was excluded fro the time being from data caps.
