UF doesn't even have the balls to suspend someone for an entire game. And that game is against Vanderbilt of all teams! The Gaytors are truly low-lifes.

I love how you can physically assault a man on the field and get half a game suspension but you see kids who break curfew or miss to many classes that week and they get 1,2, or even 3 game suspensions! How is this right? I am not saying that the punishment for breaking curfew or missing classes is not right but seriously half a game suspension for physically assaulting a guy? Ridiculous! Wasn’t Captain Munnerlyn suspended last year for stomping on a guy or something and wasn’t it like a game or something?

Notice how there are no gator trolls over here defending this garbage. They even know to keep their mouth shut because this is just wrong. I didn’t mind florida to much before this because I save most of my disgust for clemson followed by georgia/tenn/unc but florida really moved up the pecking order now. UM is spineless and has needs to grow a pair. Half a game suspension for Vandy!!!! What a joke. And if tebow actually said that they didn’t do anything that wasn’t being done to them, then I lost a lot of respect for him as well. That’s what I would expect a 2 year old to tell me after they got caught. Keep it classy florida

Secondly, the eye-gouge was so intentional and disturbing, Spikes needs to be suspended for the rest of the year. I'm sure Jawja was doing some dirty things, that is not surprising. But anyone who says that retaliating is ok is out of their minds.

Remember guys, this is the same administration that slow-played the Jarvis Moss drug suspension in 2006...

To their credit, it won them a national championship!! Clowns.

At least it allowed Ohio St and Michigan to get embarrassed. I hate the BCS.

I do agree that he should have been punished more then what he has gotten. Other players are going to what his punishment is and try to do something worse then that.. thats what wrong with these kids now.. thats why the NFL players are drinking and driving and killing people and doing drugs because they got away with it in college..

What's the appropriate punishment for a player having lunch with a famous star player, but lying about it because he doesn't know if it broke rules or not, which it didn't?

Suspend for the season.

What's the appropriate punishment for a player purposely and maliciously trying to cause damage to a sensory organ, and after a play is effectively over?

Suspend for half a game.

Boy, that sure makes a lot of sense!

Should be about a 3-4 game suspension. I am really surprised the conference did not step in and give a more serious punishment.

He is a playmaker. I would have probably just suspended him for one game. Dont really matter to him though. He knows he is about to get paid.

This is absolutely disgraceful. A bigger deal has GOT to be made of this. I don't think Blount's suspension was too heavy- you have to send a message. Spikes at the very LEAST shouldn't play again this season.

http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/r...g-1802676.html
12 games for eye-gouging for an Irish rugby player.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/rugby_union/8122711.stm
8 games

Those are real suspensions. And those players aren't exactly nobodies. Spikes' is a joke.

Not nearly as much as he might think. From my understanding NFL scouts were giving him a mid to late round grade due to lack of athleticism. If you factor this in as well he may be in the 5th-7th range and thats far from being paid enough to set you for life, especially if you don't make the team.

looks like we suspended one of our players for a full game for playing through an injury.

Spikes tried to maim another player and only got a half game.

It is hard for me to say this.....but I agree with you. The NCAA is a joke. If you honestly think they don't let Southern Cal get away with violations you are living in a fantasy world. There aren't that many famous people/former players and NFL stars around and something inappropriate isn't happening. It happens everywhere even small schools but how they are handled is different.

The SEC suspend a star UF player and take the chance of losing out on having a #1 vs #2 SEC Title game not to mention a MNC team and a BCS bowl team?

The SEC administration has shown their true colors on several occasions this year........and the color is all about the GREEN!

Just for the record, the UGA RB doesn't think Spikes should have been suspended at all.

Quote:
ATHENS, Ga. -- A most unlikely person came to the defense of Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes, who was suspended for half a game for apparently trying to gouge the eyes of Georgia running back Washaun Ealey.
Ealey said Tuesday he doesn't believe Spikes should have been suspended.
In fact, Ealey seemed surprised the play from Saturday's game drew so much attention.
