i just watched the presser and he said all i needed to hear!
"WE DON'T FEEL BAD & YOU GUYS OR THE FANS CAN'T MAKE US FEEL BAD" are you serious! if i played like they have or coached like they have for the past few games i would be pissed at myself enough to the point where nobody else would have to be mad at me, he should just say we had low expectations this year and were happy with 6 wins and maybe well get lucky and win 7, that way of thinking if whats wrong on the field! i love carolina football and my house is decorated with tons of stuff from my bedroom to the bathroom, my kids love carolina football, we go to practices, events & etc, i wanna feel proud of my teams efforts on and off the field and i was ashamed to wear my colors after that game saturday for the first time and i normally wear carolina cloths every day. i know they say moral victorys dont count, BUT, i want that feeling back a few years ago when we took it to AUB in the rain here in columbia and lost but we gave all we had, we played hard, we played with heart and i loved it, what i been watching the last 2 years has really taken away from my enjoyment of carolina football. if you cant give us wins ,OK, but please coachs/players give us 110% and thats all i ask and ill be happy win or lose |

I think he was mostly talking about the negativity from the press. I don't think he meant it against the fans.

He' right though. We're 6-3 and we've been every ballgame except the one in the rain where we fumbled the ball three times in our redzone early. That is the aberration and we don't need to get all depressed about it.

It still sounds bad saying you dont feel bad, im not a big time coach but i would have said something like this "our performance was not good and theres no excuse for it, i feel bad for all the fans that traveled to see us play and i heard there were 10-12,000 of them and i feel bad for our young players that have to deal with their performance given GOOD or BAD, we should be better and were doing everything we can to get better and we will not stop until we get there" .
sounds like a tebow speach i know...lol |

That's probably close to what he meant. He just means..."we're 6-3. Yep we fumbled that last one away. Yep. Need to try and play a lot better." You know.

All depends on your take.
Could be another way of saying our kids aren't throwing in the towel on the season and the media and the whiner fans aren't going to bring us down. |

I know the majority of this board are students/young people and are in their own little world at this stage of their lives, but I really feel for longtimers like you. It really is painful to watch our fans; we have LEGIONS of people, young, old, male, female, fans that ACHE for a program to be proud of. You could see them coming back out since the start of this season....people flying their flags again, people wearing the colors shopping and dining, the little kids wearing their Gamecock stuff again. The team was playing like it cared for the most part, New Carolina etc, and really that's all most of us ask. We care, and we want THEM to play like they know it. And then came Saturday. No one wants to be made fun of. We've befriended an exchange student who had never seen "American football" before he got here this school year, and had the typical european disdain for it. He since has become a HUGE Gamecock fan, and it is really painful and somewhat embarrassing watching him suffer the same letdowns we have all felt for so long, trying to reconcile in one's head WHY it seems like the program is oblivious and unconcerned with it's effect on people. They honored the 69 team at the half of the Vandy game. I watched that team win their championship, and I've loved them ever since. But like you, the last two years have taken a toll on me that even the latter Brad Scott years didn't take. |

I thought the point of his quote was to tell the media that the team isnt that bad off, and cut off the reporter (sometimes I wonder who these people are who cover our team) before he started bringing up a late season "collapse"

He is absolutely right. However, he will not be right IF we get to the end of the season and we haven't won at least one or two of these last three games. So Spurrier is right for now in that everyone just needs to lay off. It was one bad game where nothing went our way. It was our only "bad" game of the season. However, most of us fans (including me) are just all to use to seeing this at the end of the season so we are panicking. |

i took his comments as the team is doing better than he and everyone else thought all with the infusion of new coaches and new S&C coach.

Spurrier ripped the fans when we cheered the players' outstanding effort against No.2 Auburn a few years ago, but he now says that HE doesn't feel bad about this team even after their lackluster effort the other night. I wonder how he will tell us to feel in a few weeks if his offense continues to sputter along at its current pace.
And, there can be no excuse this week for the offense since (according to SOS) Arkansas' defense is last in the conference. |

He also said the teams best games are in the future. 6-3 is not bad for this football team. Many teams would like to have a 6-3 record right now. We lost to Ga, Ala, and Tenn. Hope to get win # 7 this week. end
This team has surpassed most preseason predictions. Has a chance to be 10-3, 9-4. Everyone will say no chance, not a chance in hell. Then when the team lives up to our crash and burn expectations we complain about everyone from the waterboy to the AD. The Spurrier Era has been a better than average stretch for USC football, but we want more and I think it will happen starting this year . |

Remember last year when everyone said that Spurrier had been too negative and it was tearing down team chemistry? I guess you can't have it both ways.
I think this is his way of saying "You're never as good as you think you are, and you're never as bad as you think you are." |

Spurrier has said over and over, and his players repeat it, that they grieve over a loss for one day, then they move on to prepare for the next one. This is their team approach to the season and I think Spurrier's comments have been consistent with that.
So no need to get panties in a wad over this comment from Spurrier, and what good does it do his team to keep fretting? Learn your lessons and move on.

That's the way I interpreted it anyway. It's what he needed to say to the reporters and us. As for what he has to say to the team and coaches I'm guessing that happens when and where we aren't privileged to hear it. |
