Tell me about y'alls special teams.

I've heard that y'alls punt and fieldgoal teams are pretty solid. But I've heard there are concerns about y'alls kick-off and kick return teams. Is this accurate? The main reason I ask is Dennis Johnson has done a good job of returning kick-offs for us. Can y'all see a field advantage for the Hogs in the game? This could be a difference.

Kick off coverage is a joke at USC...normally we let teams start around the 30 to 35. Kick return is up in the air even with Culliver returning...be seeing how he may not even make the trip it's hard to say. We know Sherman is really fast. But that's all we know.

if he's good well have a hard time with him, our kicker has a week leg and can barely kick to the 15 and the kick has very little hang time.

we will not win another game due to the Oline & special teams, unless our offense finally comes together

Kick return team has been pretty decent with exception of this past Sat'day night.
Good on punt team.
Punt return team pretty decent.
Pretty good on field goals.

The latest rumor I heard is that we will only have onside kicks for the rest of our games. The reasoning is that we are bound to get lucky and recover one occasionally, and our field position after the kick won't be any worse than it is now.

Our field goal kicker is solid, Gilmore is solid on Punt returns, not sure who is going to return kickoffs, Sherman hasnt impressed me on kickoffs. OUr problem is coverage when we kick off. Dont have a strong leg kicking off, and ithe kicks aren't high, so we dont give ourselves time to get downfield to which the other teams can exploit

I truly believe that until our kickoff coverage gets better, we are better off kicking it out of bounds and giving them the ball at the 40...that way no one gets hurt and we can't get one taken to the house on us...

Actually, if you watch our kicker in warm ups, no way does he have a weak leg. He kicks it half way into the end zone every time. At the NC State game, both kicks were at the goal line and high. Same with the first few Georgia kicks, but they returned them anyway and now they don't want to take the chance. Everything is supposed to be short, high and to the side

At this point I'd kick every one out of bounds. Field position wouldn't be any worse and there'd be no returns for 6.

Yates has averaged 61.6 yds per kickoff with 1 touchback. That would be an average just inside the 5 yd line. But when he is credited with 3 solo tackles himself you know the coverage needs some work.

The opposing team has averaged 61.9 yds per kickoff.
