Williston-Elko has been a consistently successful program in arguably the toughest region in all of Class A for the past 15 years or so. The region at one time was (with Bamberg coming late):

Bamberg
Blackville
Denmark
Williston
Allendale
Estill
Wagener

I was on the team that went to State in 1999. We lost in the last 40 seconds to a field goal...9-7.

They have had 9 seasons of 8+ wins in the last 15 years (one season was an 8 win). Only 3 seasons in that time period with losing records and they were all 3 in a row...3-8 seasons.

Been to a State Championship every decade since the 60's and have won in each decade except the 90s (the one I mentioned above where we lost 9-7).

Williston-Elko is pretty much a launchpad for other coaches I think. Dean Boyd coached in the mid-90's and was successful...then went to Marlboro County and won a couple State Titles. Justin Gentry was at W-E for the early to mid part of this decade...now at Lake City with two back to back 8 win seasons- Lake City went undefeated in region last season but was unable to compete in offseason due to a game altercation.

Williston has had a good team and has alway had a very tough team because thats how they coach there..

just heard a guy talking about how lucky williston is.. he SAID, " they have not play anybody this year." he was from bamberg.. i was thinking we have played good teams its just that we beat them by alot.. i wanted to tell him that Williston would sit DEXTER AND GATOR out for some game in the 1st QTR. and some games put the second string in at the end of halftime.. I have respect for all teams in higschool but down a team for being good.. and everybody says Williston struggled against GREAT FALLS i guess they have to beat every team by 60.. they held them to 0 and the They scored 24.. Williston hada lot of penilties.. and the QB was not on last night from what i hear..

Garrick's timing was off Friday night. Most of his passes downfield sailed on him, and I'm pretty sure all but one of his completions came on screens. I've covered 9 of Williston-Elko's 11 games this year, and Friday night was by far the worst I've seen him play.

Blue Devils committed 13 penalties. 1 was a five yard facemask, 1 was roughing the passer, and the remaining 11 were either false starts or offsides. Very uncharacteristic of them, and it put their offense in some difficult situations, while some of those defensive penalties extended some Great Falls drives.

That said, Great Falls run defense was the best I've seen W-E play, outside of maybe Blackville-Hilda last week. Salley and Staley usually rack up tons of yards after contact, but the Great Falls defenders were able to hang on and limit them to minimal gains. Not surprisingly, Salley was able to bust some big ones in the 4th as Great Falls was starting to wear down.

Play of the game was LB Marcus Bates dropping a Great Falls RB in the backfield on 4th and inches at W-E's 25 yard line on the opening drive of the second half. It was 8-0 at that point, and Great Falls was building momentum, but Bates burst through the middle of the line untouched and planted the RB in the backfield.

Even then, it was 8-0 at the beginning of the fourth, but Great Falls' QB fumbled the snap at their 29, and Garrick hit Quantel Mack for a 24 yard TD shortly after. W-E stopped Great Falls on 4th down again on their next drive, and pounded the ball with Salley all the way down the field, chewing up clock and putting it away.

W-E's defense was huge. Bates is the star on D, but Andrea Williams, Darryl Salley, and Shamel Harley up front have been monsters all season long.

yes that is true, i have been to most there games this year... But i think and its just me, that Dexter would be a better runner if he was to lower his shoulders.. i mean he run threw people by standing up.. if he was to drop his shoulders he would be a truck.. and to me Gator is a great qb.. just had a bad night.. it happens..
