Absolutely....it would be wonderful if SOS finally distinguishes himself from all of our other coaches with some very special teams. This is what we hired him to do and what we've been waiting to see.
However, it is improper to spin the outcomes into premature accolades that really haven't been won yet. Don't pin any medals until they've actually been won. We can spin the careers of Jim Carlen, Coach Joe, Lou, and SOS in both positive or negative directions depending on what outcomes you focus on. But when you lay the main standard by which all coaches are judged by (W-L records) up against one another, the sum of the outcomes are almost identical, which means they've all done about the same. The same could be said for SOS v. Urban Meyer and their respective tenures at UF: They've both done exceptionally well...but neither is ahead of the other...they've both done about the same. And there's really nothing negative or hating about any of that. It's just the way it is. |

It absolutely was a miracle. We've had better baseball teams before. The team that went up against Texas in '04 I think was the best baseball team we had ever put together (IMO). Let's face it. We hit a slump during the series with Florida, and we gave up the Eastern Conf Title, and rolled over and died in the SEC Tournement. The Regionals is where we got some confidence back, and beating Coastal in the supers the way we did, I think gave us some confidence going to Omaha, BUT . . . . No team had ever won the CWS after losing the opening game. We Did That, Only one other team in the history of the CWS had won it from the loser's bracket. . We did that. No one can argue that of the 8 teams in Omaha, we weren't the best team there going in. I really think Clemson was the team proving themselves at the end of the season, and showing they had a team that could possibly win it all. . . . . .After losing that first game we could not afford to slip up again until reaching the finals which meant we had to be perfect, and until that time we were far from a perfect team. Facing elimination at the hands of Oklahoma yet again, and pulling it out in Extra Innings, then having to beat possibly the best team in the tourney twice to even get a shot at the title, And pulling it off ! . .. .the rest is history after we put Clemson away, but to say that run of games after the opening loss the way we won them wasn't a miracle really takes away from the magnitude of what they accomplished. The best teams do it easily, We proved to be a Great team by overcoming some pretty incredible odds to win it all. . . . It was a miracle

My view as Gamecock fans is every year expect no more than 7 or 8 wins tops you will be a much happier Gamecock fan over time and have fewer disappointments. Success of a program comes in stages. Becoming a top six SEC team is my goal right now to replace a TN or Auburn who are weaker than FL, AL, GA, and LSU in recruiting which is where winning teams are built. Where we are more lacking in beating these teams is quality depth to sustain ourselves when injuries occur at the end of a season when pretenders falter. The biggest difference in talent in our team is in regards to second and third stringers on our team over the big six. They have more overall talent than we do going in and some of our fans refuse to acknowledge that at all. I found it funny how some fans hated Ray Tanner for saying we were not the best team at the CWS because that means even things like luck played a part in our winning a national championship it is blasphemy to say that. Heaven forbid if that happens and it causes you to win a game you probably shouldn't have on paper or maybe wouldn't in a long series where talent usually wins out. Our backup to Garcia is true freshman Connor Shaw of GA. HIGH SCHOOL: Dual-threat quarterback who threw for 3,100 yards and 30 TDs with just six interceptions as a senior at Flowery Branch (Ga.) High School, graduating in December 2009... also rushed for 800 yards and 17 scores... played for his father, head coach Lee Shaw... squad finished 10-4 and reached the state semifinals... as a junior, passed for 2,200 yards and 22 scores while rushing for 941 yards and 11 TDs... team finished as the runner-up in the AAA division... had 1,200 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns as a sophomore wide receiver... considered a three-star prospect, the 19th-best dual-threat quarterback in the nation and the state's 47th-best player by Rivals.com... rated a three-star prospect and the nation's 31st-best quarterback by Scout.com... regarded as a three-star prospect and the nation's 46th-best "athlete" by ESPN.com. http://gamecocksonline.cstv.com/spor..._connor01.html GA's backup to Aaron Murray is true freshman Hutson Mason "The AJC Class AAAAA Player of the Year set single-season state records for passing yards (4,560) and touchdown passes (54) at Lassiter. He’s understandably confident in his abilities." Great teams really do reload we don't. We hope Connor Shaw or Kenny Miles are diamonds great teams overlooked in being choosy with scholarship limitations. http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2010...orgia-qb-race/

I really think the major source of frustration (mine included) comes from
our expectations the day Mike McGee announced Steve Spurrier as our new Head Coach. . . It was the same expectations we had when he announced Lou Holtz as the new coach too. There was reason to place much expectation on those two (Especially Spurrier). We all saw us being the New Florida Gators by this time, and when we got a big ole dose of reality a couple of years back, and it was apparent we couldn't get the recruits he got in Florida, and the recruits we did get weren't quite as "coachable" as those he had in Florida, then we all start to blame Spurrier for not being the coach he was at Florida. . . . . In fact, if you look at the '05 (with the streak of SEC games at the end of the year) and the '06 decision to put Newton under center because we had arguably the worst O/line in the five + years Spurrier's been here, and it clicked. . .I would dare to say it showed the Genius this guy really is. . No we didn't finish above 8 wins, or even look good doing it, but those teams would not have won 4 games under any other of the coaches we had prior to Spurrier taking over. You can only do so much with what you have to work with, and we need to realize until we get good solid talent across the board like he had at Florida, or a good solid O/line to make everything go, WE ARE NOT GOING TO BE THE FLORIDA OF THE 90s. . . . Until this program becomes "sellable" to the upper tier talent out there, we are going to have to take baby steps in gettting where we won't to be. As long as this team doesn't become the 7 or 8 wins one year, and back to 2 or 3 years of sub 6 wins, I'm willing to wait for the improvements. My frustration lies mainly in the fact that we didn't seem to be moving forward, but basically stagnate, and failing to correct the blarring problems with both the coaches AND Players. . . . . BUT. . . I've never participated in any of the Vent threads, or started threads calling for our AD to get rid of our coaches (any sport), or cuss out players that can't seem to get with the program. I'll state my mind in a way of venting without bashing. It's all we can do, because all the cussing ranting, kicking the dog, and yelling for our AD to DO SOMETHING will do no good until THEY decide to make a move. We don't call the shot for this program, and there's no need to bash the program or the coaches. . . .It is What it is, until the AD decides it isn't.

WELL SAID! As long as Spurrier is our coach I will support him whole heartedly. I personally have avoided the vent threads cause all they do is piss me off from the way people act, though the bowl game did push me to my limits. This season is poised to be our best since Spurrier has arrived. We have talent accross the board like never before and quality depth in vital positions. We fielded one of the youngest teams in the nation last year so literally everyone of our starters will have at least a full season of experience as well as the taste of that pitiful bowl game going into this season. I think we will get a good idea of what kind of team we will have after this week of practice. |

27 years of Gamecock Club and Season tickets. I've seen it all and heard it all. Analyze (guess) all you want up and down but every season I BELIEVE we will win every game. The one's we should as well as the one's we shouldn't. It sounds like most of you armchair coaches have said enough both ways on team and coaches to claim you were right at the end of the season. I'm all for fans who live in ignorant bliss and undying hope. As for disappointment, there is always next year! I have never been disappointed in the Gamecocks even when they performed poorly. They are kids! Build toward next week,,,next year! I am particularly proud of Chris Culliver who my son played with at Garner High School in Garner, NC. (Also Reggie Bowens, Conner McLauren and Cedric Sneed, a walk-on super young man). One high school in NC and FOUR GAMECOCKS!

I think Spurrier has one more coaching run in him .. He really gets up for years that he thinks his team can compete and win a championship just like his team this year.
