Shows the depth of this conference... The cellar dwellar teams from last year (UK and UT) are both drastically improved, and there are no truly easy wins in this conference this year... I thought Bama would be a fairly easy series, but they just swept Auburn...

Honestly, I know there were 3 teams that went 22-8 last year in conference, I think if you get 20 wins, that will probably be enough to win the SEC this year.

Hopefully, Kentucky will crack against Arky and LSU. Mainly though, I hope we keep winning as much as we can for post season hosting purposes.

If the season ended today, we would be tied for 8th.... Top 10 teams make it to Hoover this year...

I can't believe Vandy is as bad as they appear to be. And I think Ky will lose some more games, but they have a big jump on everyone else. But I don't think anyone will win twenty games in the conference. And we saw last year that head to head has no bearing on the conference championship.

USC Rises in SEC Standings

The Gamecock baseball team continues to slog its way out of the last-place hole created by the Kentucky's sweep (0-3) in its first SEC series. The situation deteriorated further in the second weekend when the Gamecocks lost a series to Florida (1-2). At that point, the Gamecock's SEC record was 1-5 and the team was at the bottom of the SEC standings, 1 ½ games away from qualifying for the SEC tournament. Qualification for the SEC tournament is probably a minimal requirement to make the NCAA playoffs.

Since then, the team has slogged its way forward in the standings, achieving a current tie for the final 10th spot with two other teams at 5-7 overall. The Gamecocks have won the last two series against Vandy and Tennessee. In the last six SEC games, the Gamecocks are 4-2. Currently, they ride a two game win streak.

Judging by the glut of teams with around .500 records, it is possible the complicated SEC baseball tie-breaker rules could come into play. Those are shown here at this link. The secondary tie-breaker for two intra-division opponents (following head-to-head match-ups) is the team's Eastern Division record.

The conference is just a little more balanced than it was last year, although I do think the SEC has a few teams capable of making runs to Omaha. A lot of people on here seem to be worried about how we have almost matched our SEC loss total from last year, but in the end all that matters is hosting a regional, and hopefully hosting a super is the guys continue to improve

We are still number 10 in the baseball poll. That series win kept us there. I think we might be finding ways to win as in prior years. It is funny to see all of us moan and groan at being # 10.
