I want to say I hate the family has lost someone they loved...but I have a hard time appreciating someone like Rodney King, except from his assigned status as a symbol for the Civil Rights Movement. To be honest, I have always thought the person filming the incident deserved the real credit and those who were innocently attacked in the days afterward.

He was still a pretty shitty person overall- and even on the night of his historic event, he was speeding down the street drunk and high...and on parole. He did the same thing many times since that event endangering lives and having an obvious lack of respect for his own.

47 is too young to die but there are always some people that seem to be in a hurry.

EDIT: For the record, I just read he was drunk and high when he died. According to his girlfriend, he was naked and screaming in the backyard and when she attempted to call police- she heard a splash.

It is sad for his family, but the drunk & high part doesn't surprise me. He was on the show "Celebrity Rehab w/Dr. Drew". I guess it didn't work.

Was he a perfect person, or even a role model? No. What happened with this man was something short of a crazy time train crashing into history. He was beaten by LA Police at a stop. He was high, and irate, and was not willing to cooperate with police. He was beaten in order for him to cooperate. What most people forget was that not only was he beaten, which I believe was the appropriate thing for police to do in that situation, but after being beaten to the point he passed out, he was still beaten while being knocked out. Afterwards, they continued to beat the man.

Again I am not condoning his activity that got him into that situation, but I will say this. When you work for a prison, as a guard, you are mandated to be sprayed with mace. In the eyes, for a second, to realize the pain it causes. The reason they do this, is to show you (the guard) how it feels, so you know how much to use, and when to use it. Even though in the incident, he was irate, and not cooperative. There was no reason the man should have been beaten like that. Whether it was a race thing or not, no human being should be treated that way in this country. I believe the point was made.

Wish his family the best, and I pray for them and all those people who have nothing but negativity to say about this.

I know what you mean, when I was a kid I looked up to Law Enforcement. Now it is hard not to try to avoid them at all costs.
