It is important to remember what I mentioned in my previous post. In the old days, the bench press was important and the players worked on it a lot. Today's players work on functional strength. Meaning they don't work all that hard on the one rep max. The coaches are more concerned with other exercises. It's just like the NFL though, they don't care how much a guy can bench, they are how many times he can do 225.

Exactly. They don't really want him doing much more. I'm sure he wants to do more because of the record and I don't blame him one bit. They should let him set the record as high as he can. As long as there are spotters, he will be ok.

That is awesome news and congrats to Byron. I look forward to seeing him break another record, the "quarterback press," during which he causes QB's faces to impact the turf of Williams-Brice Stadium with extreme force. Works on RB's as well.

Wow, it looks like Byron has redefined his body. You should post some pictures from "before" next to how he looks now. That will also give us a glimpse of how effective our S&C is going right now, especially with the new top coach. Again, I am expecting and hoping for "beast mode" for him this year!!

Anyone got a full shot of the pic on the left. Hard to imagine that this is Byron. Waist seems way too small to be him. If it is he should just move to LB.

You have the physical law correct but I don't think you have the correct analogy to the strength versus the bench press measuring it. Work would be more analogous to the number of calories burned during each rep, rather than strength. To compare to strength, I think you want to measure instantaneous power ... dWork/dt. He (or she) who can provide the greatest amount of instantaneous power is the strongest. For those that didn't spend any time in Swearingen ... I'm talking about work being done over a small time interval. In Calculus, it's an extremely tiny amount of time. For our purposes, it's the amount of work done during a single rep during your lift routine.
