This years run was awesome.. I'm catching so much hell at work today already (mostly taters, and the UF fans). But I'm proud to be a Gamecock, and proud of that group of guys. We didn't lose, we just ran out of time. That's how I'm looking at it. GO COCKS !

Great season. Great three seasons. Not sure the better team won in terms of who they played and how they got there. However there is NO QUESTION that the best team during the playoffs and CWS won. They picked a perfect time to get more from their pitchers than they'd gotten most of the season in terms of ERA, etc. Unfortunately while our offense was never hot during the season, we could not have been more anemic batting during the CWS. With ANY kind of run support we'd be celebrating that 3-peat.

Regardless, these guys (players and coaches) are all class acts as are the Arizona players and coaches. It is also cool to see all the good story lines that comes with winners. That's been the case all three seasons for our guys and is definitely true for Arizona as well.

Winning the thing two years in a row and finishing 2nd the 3rd year is truly remarkable. Like many have said, it appears that we have the talent to potentially get back to Omaha again next season. That would be a lot to ask minus Roth and Price and the senior everyday players.

Thanks for the great times.

Now would any of Gamecock Nation be satisfied with our football team losing in a National Championship game this season. Of course we all want to win one, but RIGHT NOW I'd take a number two finish.

Go Cocks...what a GREAT time to be a Gamecock.

The guys never stopped battling. They played like champs. All the upperclassmen passed it down perfectly to the youngsters. Tanner and staff was spot on the entire CWS AGAIN…. Thanks for a season that exceeded all my expectations (and I reside permanently behind garnet colored glasses) so this is no small feat.

Here is my blog post for today: http://uscerock.com/the-love-of-the-game-cws-gamecocks/

Quote:
Last night the Gamecocks finished a great season, but as runners up in the Baseball College World Series to Arizona. It was a heck of a run by this young talented team led by some great upperclass leadership. Many thought after their rough SEC start that they had no chance and that the run of CWS was over as we reloaded with younger talent. But surprisingly, this young group pushed ahead and won the SEC East and almost had the SEC title, but just came up short to LSU.
This year I had the chance to go to eleven regular season games and to one CWS regional game. To see the improvements over the year was amazing. Coach Ray Tanner did a great job of pushing these guys beyond their potential. I don’t want to say they came up short the last two games. They just got beat by the best team in College Baseball and it was a fun run. Back-to-Back National Championships the past two years and then reloading with a great group of freshman and being the runners-up is not a bad thing. I look toward next year, see who we are losing in Michael Roth, Matt Price, and Adam Matthews, but also see the great talent that got great experience and a top recruiting class. I think the next few years we will be back in Omaha and win at least one or two more.
Today I’m having the feeling I did growing up after the MLB World Series was over. I miss baseball! Over the past decade I’ve fallen in love with baseball all over again with college baseball after losing it to the steroid era of baseball in the Major Leagues. College baseball is pure and fun to watch. I love watching the teams dog pile after winning. I love the antics of the bench and bullpen. I love how the college players aren’t about the greed and fame, they are out there for the love of the game. So the countdown to college football in August and college baseball in February has begun!

the ONLY reason for taters to rag us is their OWN IMPOTENCE. klempson and their fans are no big deal. im extremely proud of our players, coaches and loyal fans. a 3-peat would have been great but, thanks for the incredible run guys. and believe me, we'll be back in omaha real soon

Won't post it since it was an athlete but several football players have tweeted their friends on the team and told them congrats on an incredible season and they plan on picking it up where they left off in late August.

Last three seasons:
Two National Championships and a Runner Up to the Championship.
There are a lot of schools in this country who have never accomplished
that in the entire School History... and might not ever accomplish it and
I'm convinced we aren't through with this streak yet.

Thanks to the Gamecocks and Coach Tanner and his staff.

Had we not had to come out of the loser's bracket, we would have at least taken Arizona to a game 3. I really feel like we got a little wore out. I'm not making excuses cause Arizona is very good. I don't think they are 9-2 better than us in two games though. Had we had a 3 game path like they did, it would have strengthened our chances of winning 2 out of 3. Remember too, we had some VERY questionable calls that could have turned it different. Matthews was safe, not a strike to Pankake, Webb strikeout pitch that was called a ball, balls we just hammered and they go right to them. If any one or two of those plays are called the other way and if we could have gotten some of those hits thru the holes? We could and probably would have won.

I LOVE seeing stuff like this. Really shows how much this athletic department has grown over the past couple of years, and I'm excited to see the football players pick it up where they left off.

Also, to echo what Spurt just said, a few of the things we've seen the past three years:

Two national titles
National runner-up
SEC Title
SEC Eastern Division title
National coach of the year
Two 50-win seasons, and one win short of a third
Two CWS MOP's
Beating Clemson four times in the postseason
Beating the #1 team a few times
A pitcher set the career record for wins in the CWS
A pitcher set the career record for innings pitched in the CWS
A pitcher who will go down as one of the ten, maybe five, best ATHLETES EVER to come through USC
A HELL of a lot of great memories that none of us will ever forget

And to think, it could start all over again next February.

Also the streaks which no one will touch, but is very, very slightly possible like .00000001% chance, and the last at the Blatt and the first at TD, no school can EVER say that or will do that cause that place is gonna be there long after we are gone from this planet.

are people really complaining? there is nothing to be ashamed of if you are the Yard Cocks. It is hard enough just to get to Omaha, no less play in the final series 3 years in a row? Ask Arizona, they last won 1986.

These guys lay it down day in and out. Even though they lost, the fact that in the bottom of the 9th they still fought hard shows the character of these guys.

Nothing but praise for the team.

Dern, I completely forgot to mention the streaks and closing out The Blatt then opening up TD Ameritrade.

Seriously, if all of those things don't put into perspective what this team has done the last three years, nothing will.

A little late but Great Job Gamecocks we made them earn it .. Congrats to Arizona , probably the most well played games this year . We were young but Arizona was hungry and did things right and with class . I hope we can learn from Arizona to not sit back but keep striving for perfection and stay aggressive .. Dadgumit , I thought we were gonna do it again ..
We will be back
