As much as I don't really care for them, you gotta respect this.

On June 28, Lt. Col. Roy Tisdale, a Texas A&M alum, was killed during a training exercise at Fort Bragg by another solder who then shot himself. The Westboro Baptist Church, known for protesting soldiers' funerals with anti-gay messages, posted plans to show up at Tisdale's funeral on their website.

A fellow "Aggie", Ryan Slezia, came up with a plan to create a human wall to block any protesters from getting near the funeral, and invited fellow Texas A&M students and alum to join. One participant tweeted that over 650 people showed up in maroon shirts to create a "maroon wall". It appears that the Westboro protestors never showed up.

“We are standing here quietly. We are here for the family,” said Lilly McAlister, a Texas A&M student. "We are positioned with our backs to them. Everyone has been told there's no chanting, no singing, there's no yelling anything back.”

It’s solidarity that these supporters feel Tisdale and his family deserves during this tragic time. "You don't bury your children, the children bury their parents, but you don't bury your children,” said Linda Tisdale, the soldier’s mother.


Last week the former Corps of Cadets member and Texas A&M graduate was killed by another soldier at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Keeping the ceremony peaceful was the goal for hundreds of people from all over the state. "My motivation was to come out and protect the family from some people that are spewing some really nasty, nasty messages,” said Kent Gibbs, a Texas A&M Graduate.

They aren't a real church they are one family of about 25-35 people. They are protesting at soldiers funerals to say America accepting the gay lifestyle will bring about the downfall of the country. They say the death of a soldier is God punishing the country.

they actually are the lawyers from what i understand...they have multiple attorneys who are actually in the family

FWIW, when Aggies say "got your back", they mean it. This latest show, impressive as it was, pales in comparison to their response to 9/11/01. A handful of Aggies (really, less than 10) organized a "red, white, and blue-out" of the next football game at Kyle Field: first deck red t-shirts, middle deck white t-shirts, and upper deck blue t-shirts. They figured out how to get the t-shirts produced, marketed, and sold to those fans who would be sitting in the repsective decks. You can google the Kyle Field red, white, and blue football game, and see the pictures. It was beyond awesome, and even more so given the facts behind the event.

Bottom line is, there are places that couldn't replicate that feat given a year and unlimited resources. But then again, not many places treasure service to the nation like Texas A&M. Seven former students have been awarded the Medal of Honor.

Yes, they'll take their lumps in the SEC for a while, and they will endure the Aggie jokes (all of 'em agree that video was a POS, and have let the athletic department know it). But they'll catch on quick, and the wins will come. One more thing -- it's a long way from South Carolina to central Texas, but if you make the trip, you will enjoy the experience. Even ESPN, which never misses an opportunity to stick the knife into A&M, gives it props for game day experience.

First, welcome to CT.

Second, reluctantly, welcome to the SEC. I fall into the "who cares" category but I am sure I will get used to it.

Everyone including the blind can tell that video was produced by AD morons whose only intention was to do something fun. We don't hold it against you. At least I don't.

Lastly, my personal Texas experiences have all been generally mixed. Camping in the Big Bend and surrounded by snakes in 2002, waking up with one of the most intense tequila hangovers in my life in a crap hotel room in El Paso on a work trip in 2003, suffering through the most severe diarrhea ever known to mankind after eating something in Austin at SXSW, relaxing in a pool at 8:00 in the morning in Denton when it was already 100 degrees, and buying a hat at Luskey's in Ft Worth which still hangs on my wall in my office. May you find similar fun if you venture this way.

By the way, we have a really good baseball team.

With a degree from both schools, both of whom I have an intense love for, I have plenty of Carolina and Aggie apparrel, and represent both. As a Gamecock, I take pride in having the gold standard for baseball programs. As an Aggie, I want us to play Carolina in Omaha every year. As a football fan, I live and die with both programs. My goal is to get to the games at both Williams-Bryce and Kyle. May have to join the Gamecock Club and the 12th Man Foundation just to get tix to the away games, as I'm sure the tix set aside for opposing fans are the only shot I've got.

You'll like the Aggies, as we are not anything like the inbreds in Baton Rouge, where the bottom of the gene pool resides. That said, we gotta beat 'em (and anybody else) if we are to gain any respect.

I get back to Columbia every spring. Beautiful city, wonderful campus. Wish the season started next Saturday.

Most were. Fred Phelps was disbarred in Kansas and I believe his children were also.

that was truly incredible. 5 guys in 10 days manage to organize and distribute something like 75,000 shirts. Even the visiting OSU fans got in on it
