So there's some room to negotiate on the contract. He wants more ($20 Mill);they don't ($19.2 mil).
What if they keep it as is and put up 20-30 lock boxes around the stadium. Say to the fans- if Drew played well, drop a couple of bucks in the box. If not, don't. They (Stadium guards and Brees' rep) empty the boxes each week and give him the cash. He throws 3 int and fumbles, not so much. 45 points and is sharp = $5* 60,000 people.
AND do this for one year and see how the $ work out- how close he comes to his $20 mill and then lock it in. Of course if he's close, he pads the kitty himself to lock in the guarantee.
No skin off the owner's nose; let the people decide.
Then there's a bank of boxes - one for everybody- and you pay them directly.

That's a good idea. I still think the whole contract deal is ridiculous as it is. I mean, the man is already rich enough. Whining over $800,000 is pretty crazy.

Salary cap violation. Problem with saints play for pay scheme as well even if it wasnt a true bounty. Anyone could stuff a box

Those are called incentive contracts and that is what all jobs should be based on including sports. Pay him 16 mil have him cap out at 22 mil if he wins every game and leads the saints to a superbowl win. I don't agree with this because the fans are already putting a lot of money into football seats/tickets each year. If it did get implemented, it should go both ways for under par performance give the fans their money back for the games the teams lose.

he has been screwed over by the franchise tag once before. Remember he wasn't given the big contract he deserved in San Diego because of Philip Rivers on the sideline. Then he got hurt and and he didn't get the money he should have. Now he doesn't what the same thing to happen.

If I am not mistaken, it is more about the guaranteed money than the actual salary. I think I heard that he two are 10 million apart in guaranteed money, which is more important for an injury prone, older QB like Brees.

If it is just the salary part, then if he doesn't show up to camp on Monday he is a moron
