Dream Team wins....but would be fun to watch!
It's also a different game today with the way it is officiated. How many drives and show boat dunks would it take from todays team before Barkley, Ewing, Malone, Bird et al would send a physical message? |

Eh, those Dream Teamers are pretty old and out of shape these days. Kobe may be on to something.

Magic v. Paul - Paul. Magic already had AIDs at this point... he wasn't totally washed up, but Chris Paul is right in the middle of his prime... both in their prime I'd give the nod to Magic, but not in this scenario... CP3 is too special of a player. Jordan v. Bryant - Jordan. duh.... same player, Jordan was just better. Plus, this would be MJ in his prime vs. a version of Kobe who has lost a step. Bird v. Lebron - LBJ by a HUGE margin... Bird was washed up by this point, LBJ just recently became a version of Bird with freak-show athleticism... not even close. Sir Charles v. Griffin - Push. Charles is definitely the better "basketball player", but athleticism like Griffin's just didn't exist at his size in the early 90's Robinson v. Chandler - slight advantage to the Admiral. this would be hella interesting to watch. very similar players, but I can see Robinson pulling down several more rebounds, while Chandler may get an extra block. new guys would win. the NBA is deeper and more athletic than it's ever been and this 2012 team is a product of that. Side-bar: Pippen playing D on Durant would be AWESOME to watch.

They only lost because Chuck Daly threw the game. They came back the next day and beat the same college team to a pulp.

Griffin is so overrated it isn't even funny. All the guy can do is dunk, he's nowhere near the player Barkley was. Sir Charles would kick his ass. Let's not even talk about Robinson vs Chandler. That one isn't close either. The Admiral was a no-doubt HOFer who had the talent to be the next Russell. Chandler is a Third Team All-NBA guy in a bad year for centers. Come on, it's not even close. While we're being real, all the Dream Team would do is give the ball to whoever Durant is "guarding" and score at will. |

With that said, could you assemble a team of NBA talent (with one pre-rookie) and beat the Dream Team? Shit Yeah. Do I, GH, think this current team would be able to do it? Hell No.

I think it would be a lot closer than a lot of you think. The dream team couldn't match up with the athleticism and speed of this years team. Jordan was great no doubt, but Magic and Bird were way past their prime. Not sure the dream team had the guys to match up defensively with Kobe, Lebron, and Durant.

this current team would get dominated inside. the center and pf positions would be no contest. the one thing this '12 team could do is go small and that would present problems, that and the fast point guards. bird wouldnt play heavy minutes against lebron, if youre doing a matchup it would likely be pippen on lebron.

If there werent so many current stars hurt it would be a lot closer matchup.
Howard, Bryant, James, Durant would have given the dream team fits with there length and ability to step out and hit the three (excluding Howard) |

Kobe said this to get the 2012 team something to really strive for - excellence - by saying that he thought the 2012 team could give the 92 team a run for their money and possibly pull it out, he has set the storyline for Team USA basketball in these Olympics...they are not just competing with other countries for gold medals that a lot of these guys already have...they are going to try their games like they are playing against history and hope to make people think it is arguable.
Maybe he learned such psychologically motivating tactics from Phil Jackson. Like I said in an earlier post, the Dream Team would win (any they would probably win by double digits just based on their depth)...I do have a hard time imagining that the Dream Team would beat international competition these days by a 40-point average though...it would probably only be by 25 or so... BTW I am a Long-time lakers fan going back to the Magic and Kareem and A.C. and ....
