For those worried about losing recruits, most are well aware of how quickly the hierarchy could change here. I don't feel we'll take a big hit in that regard.

I have little problem with this move. I don't think it is a coincidence that Holbrooke's arrival coincided with us claiming championships. I don't think Tanner had interest in coaching more than a couple of more years anyway and Holbrooke was in line to take over. So this move doesn't really impact that, just moves up the timeline a couple of years. Baseball will be fine.

I am a little nervous about Tanner in the role of AD. An SEC sports program is big business and being at the helm of that is no easy task. From a purely leadership perspective Tanner is set. I hope though that the financial side isn't a problem for him. I trust that there are capable financial guys in the athletic offices and that Tanner has the wisdom to trust their judgement. I think he will be a sufficient fundraiser and I know he will be willing to make the touch choices, even if he sometimes has to cross the fans for the good of the program. For far too long we had leadership that was pushed around, Tanner won't be.

It's a no-brainer; best case scenario has worked out. The alternative involved us spurning Ray, him maybe getting hurt feelings and starting to work on his next move (at another school where they would allow him to move into the AD role) and holbrook probably taking a bigtime job as HC elsewhere meanwhile we bring in some, albeit experienced, non-gamecock who has to learn the people in the program for two years before doing anything and who scraps hyman's plan (after putting it on hold for two years) because he has his own vision for the program. Also, he fires everyone in the Ath Department because he wants to bring in his own people and we're starting totally over. not to mention the new guy will probably want to hire his own coaches and might not get along with spurrier. Ray will get along with spurrier, we already know it. Spurrier doesn't go to omaha every year and sit with the commoners for a prick he doesn't like. Ray can call big $$$ people for donations tomorrow, if he needs to and they'll like him better than they ever liked hyman from day one.

You do know Skip Bertman was replaced as the AD at LSU in 2008 don't you? By an active AD from another top athletics department (Duke)

You do know that Skip Bertman was pretty much run out of town in 2008 right? He had like 3 years left on his contract but they made him step down to a honorary fund raising role.
