Sounds like we're at least keeping in touch with him.

I just want one Matt Stafford type player here...one guy who can come in as a freshman and produce at the QB spot. I remember watching his freshman game at the WB and thinking we were lucky we got out of there with a win.
Our depth keeps getting better but I keep reading we don't have much depth at the OL. I guess that means we don't have a junior backing up a senior or something? Seems like we're redshirting a lot of talent there so that's nothing but good for next year and the year after, especially given our coach. This year I'm looking forward to seeing what the D will be like under new leadership...seems like it'll be a step up over last year which would be insane! I'm also looking forward to seeing what the new DC can do on the recruiting trail with that new title. Heck, I'm just looking forward to football. It's that time of year when the prognostications are starting to get old and the same thing is being said over and over and all of college football is starved for any new info. It's so damn exciting! |

I'd most like to see Eugene Lewis in a Gamecock uniform.
However, I really feel for these players at Penn St. And, I feel for they and their families as they deal with the struggle of choosing whether to stay or go. I have little doubt that some shadier programs have already contacted players and their families and high school coaches. I doubt our staff makes any push for any Penn St. kids, but I wouldn't shed a tear if a QB, OL, or WR gave us a call. |

RT @Haney1075 RT @John_Infante: USC (and other sanctioned schools) may NOT exceed scholarship limits to accept Penn State transfers.

Let me clairify by saying that is my opinion first (I'm not as high on Shaq as some are, and regardless he looks to be leaving the state) Second, Miller is in all likelihood headed to Clems. Crosby is up in the air now. I am a huge fan of Stanley but he will be tough for us with alot of major schools after his services By strong I mean there is a potential elite 5 star type recruit with highly talented players throughout the top 10 (this class seems like it will be top heavy, and even then I'm not sure if we will have a top 50 player). There is no elite RB, QB or CB for that cycle either it appears (very good ones but no true stand outs per say, yet) Looks like a normal, average SC class. Nothing wrong with that, just not a throughly "strong" class For example 2013's class was not a "strong" one either, and it has shown in recruiting, with us going out of state to land bigger recruits (aka Rolin/Bryant) and only really pursuing a handful of players in state

Things could get interesting here...I still think he looks at the depth chart and goes to South Carolina, but he is claiming Clemson his leader right now. One thing Clemson has in their favor is that if Hopkins turns pro after this year there are only 5 WR with experience on the roster and 5-7 receivers are used in Morris' offense. So truthfully the depth chart may not be as deep as originally thought.

I think your right. There is no doubt that he would be committing to Clemson if he didn't have such a family connection to VT.

Hopkins is a good WR but I think he would benefit from staying another year. It would not hurt my feelings if he left though

Stafford was 8-19 for 171 yds 0 tds and 3 ints against us his freshman year, and we lost that game 18-0. He ended up his freshman season completing barely above 50% with 7 tds and 13 ints. Stafford never threw a single TD pass against us in 3 tries...

When it comes to Stafford's career against us sometimes a player runs into a team that has his number. Bringing up his stats against just us for his career is like using the Arkansas games to sum up our defense during Ellis Johnson's tenure. Also Stafford started as a true freshman, barring injury Mitch or Hack wouldn't start until they were RS Freshman and that is a huge difference.

Stafford played against us because UGA's starting QB broke his leg in the game. He was a back-up coming into that game, and while many UGA fans were thinking heading into that season that he might win the starting job at some point in 2006 (like many USC fans were thinking Garcia may do the same sometime during '07), most UGA fans felt at the end of the year that in retrospect Stafford was not yet ready to take the helm as a starter, or something like what you're saying you believe Mitch or possibly Hack would deal with ....

I really think we should go after the QB... he wasn't the number 1 qb recruit for no reason
