pshh.
They're the USC Trojans. Lane handed him straight cash in a duffle bag, when the NCAA came calling, he threw him some doofy Graduate Assistant who took the punishment and has been show caused for 17 years.

Good read, I still think the 4 year DP should have been a part of the current sanctions.

I still think the Pennsylvania Legislature or Board of Regents, or woever has control of PSU should cancel football for a couple of seasons as well as prosecute a few more people as accomplices since they could have stopped it but didn't, and covered it up instead.

Such a great article. Exposes that school and its entire culture for what it is, and has been all along: a cult of personality hell-bent on self-preservation at any cost, with absolutely no care for the victims of Sandusky's heinous crimes. The real criminals, too, are every single person associated with that shit hole who thinks any of that self-preservation is more important than exterminating the culture that gave rise to the problem.
F that school, F its fans, F the whole corrupt culture of complicity and cover-up, and F Paterno and his rotting carcass. |

The NCAA overstepped its bounds quite frankly. Because the sicko Sandusky evil had nothing to do with an unfair competitive advantage, the NCAA should not have done a thing. The NCAA is there to help keep an even playing field, and to protect the status of student athletes, not to hand down a morality judgement.
HAVING SAID THAT....Penn State deserved to have its entire football program dismantled, razed, and left in a smoking ruin for the evil that was done against those innocent boys!!! However, it should have been the Penn St board of trustees, or the Pennsylvania State Legislature that should have done it. The perspective of morality should have come from within, and the judgement swift. BUT ALAS, did the sick, and completely twisted student body, ruling bodies, or fan base have any morals left in the tank to chop off the head of their own program? Probably not. The NCAA set a very dangerous precedent with their ruling. |

^The power rested within the Constitution of the NCAA their getting involved was under their jursidiction. The Board of Presidents gave the Commissioner the power to do it. Just to end this constant uninformed babble of the NCAA overstepping its boundaries here it is.

I am well acquainted with what the commissioner stated in his press conference, and the jurisdiction he invoked, HOWEVER, my point remains....the NCAA overstepped its bounds. Perhaps not in the bylaw lala land that you seem to embrace, but in the realm of and scope of its power and stated missions. The NCAA can now invoke this morality clause to do some real damage, and based on what, someone else's report? The NCAA didn't even do its own assessment or investigation! You're not thinking clearly if you don't think the NCAA went above its head on this one. I don't trust the NCAA to do anything right, correct, or ethical...do you?? |

Throwing the NCAA consitution power and laws out the window of college athletics is like throwing the US Constitution out the window. How did it overstep its bounds when the constitution says they have the power and the Board of Presidents and Chancellors approved the move? Got Evidence? I do...

NCAA should have given the death penalty to PSU for a minimum of four years. If college football wasn't the money market it is there's no doubt in my mind things would have been different. I imagine a name and program like PSU has always brought in good money and with their fanbase will continue to do so even with the sanctions.

^If this happened at a tiny FBS school like Akron the NCAA would have throw the 4 year DP and all the other sanctions at them but because it was school in one of the Big 4 they did not.

Just because your constitution specifies you have the authority to do something, doesn't make your lack of restraint any less damaging. What the NCAA did was cave into public pressure to drop the banhammer on Penn St, without consideration for the student athletes it says it tries to protect. Instead of sanctioning the athletic department's authority by reducing the number of coaches, or sanctioning the AD's office with staff reductions, they hurt the very people they say they want to protect, and based on what, an immoral psychopath's actions that had nothing to do with competitive advantage? The NCAA could have refined its ruling to strike at the very heart of Penn State's problem...the coaching structure, AD's office, and staff management reporting practices. What the NCAA did was use a power that can now be applied to any situations of morality that have nothing to do with competitive cheating. Anyways, I have NO LOVE LOSS for Penn State...they got EXACTLY what was coming to them, however, I think the wrong people pushed the missile button. Any decisions requiring moral fortitude should have come from within! But again, I guess that would be akin to chopping off your own head. |

Why would they do that? To avoid any negative consequences for themselves and the football program. Why would they want to avoid that? Because it could effect fundraising, recruiting, their own job security. By virtue of working to conceal Sandusky's actions they were able to avoid the negative consequences AND THUS GAIN A COMPETITIVE ADVANTAGE. Given that this wasn't a booster buying a player a car and Paterno covering it up but was, instead, serialized child rape, the NCAA brought down the hammer, and deservedly so. |

^I see where you are coming from now. The NCAA did allow the S-As to transfer without any penalty, and some who did. I think the NCAA used Penn State as Hiroshima and shock the rest of the college world that you hide crap like this you are going to pay dearly. Ped State didn't want to be the ones who had kill or punish the football program and were hoping for the NCAA because they didn't have the intergrity or gaul to do it themselves.
