or maybe it's the fact that we have a QB coach dedicated to recruiting in Mangus. Spurrier seems like a good "closer" but probably lacks the energy/enthusiasm to chat all the prospects up. all in all.. it's probably all of the above. Anyways, the pieces are all falling into place and C2 seems to think QB talent in the southeast is only going to get better in the future, so Go Cocks!

G.A. is the buffer between the QBs and SOS...and both G.A. and Shawn Elliott have had big influences over the playbook, while the former likely had none. G.A. and Shawn both have made a big difference in recruiting, coaching and development of QBs and OL, and many elements of the overall offense. |

I agree. These kids where still sucking there thumbs when spurrier was keep killing it at florida. I think we are sitting good at qb. Shaws finally three games last yr were amazing really. He really blossomed before our eyes last yr. See him having a great yr with the help of the rb's and the our d. Thompson has been getting some praise from spurrier during spring training, so thats reassuring. And it looks even better down the road with nosovitch and mitch.

With that said, qb skill is important but it doesn't matter who's back there if you can't protect them. I know it's off topic and takes thread in a different direction. But we need to build off our o line and keep it strong and deep. when mitch takes over we'll have a five star qb protected by a five start o line.

I'm a big fan of SOS, so please don't jump to the conclusion that I am attempting to explain away Coach's success at Florida. But let's be honest, his system ushered in passing in the SEC at a time that a wide open passing game was pretty much relegated passing to places like BYU and Div 2 and Div 3 programs. His biggest passing successes came before anyone had ever heard of Hal Mumme, Mike Leach, Dana Halgorsen, et al. His biggest stats were piled up when his teams were an anomaly, much like wishbone teams were in the 70s. He had great athletes at WRs and QBs that could play his system, although his QBs were not system quarterbacks in the vain of those at places later like Texas Tech.
His QBs have not translated into the NFL, and he is notoriously hard and impatient with his signal callers. I am more surprised that you guys are so surprised that he has struggled to recruit top passers than I am that he had difficulty doing it. |

Totally agree...and now he has someone else recruiting and mentoring his QBs for him. Things have changed and we need to give SOS credit for adapting. I still think the Chris Smelley saga did something to SOS.

I hate to say it.. but after Shaw leaves... I don't see Strickland being in the mix at all. |

Strickland is a junior. So after shaw leaves he won't even be here. And he's not any good anyways.

That's a pretty crappy comment about a player who has put in years of hard work as a walk-on for us. I, for one, appreciate Strickland's efforts for the program. And who knows, maybe he'll become an excellent coach down the road, like a GA Mangus (another QB who didn't play much in college).
