yeah, you can't blame uga for having it easy. we all would have taken their schedule in a heartbeat. i can understand the loss to lsu at tiger stadium on a saturday night, but the loss to uf was inexcusable. we gave it away. how long has it been since we gave a game away?
the main point that seems to be escaping so many on here, however, isn't why aren't we playing in a championship, the more important point is that we are probably right where we should be. the problem with gaining status that you've never had, is that you start believing that everything progresses exponentially. they don't. we had an 11 win season last year, and the next step isn't automatically to win the championship against teams who have built a reputation of doing it regularly, the next step is to start winning ten plus games a year regularly. that is the proper progression of a program who plans to stay around for a while. look at auburn, they rocketed up to national champion, and now look at them... you have to crawl before you can walk, AND THEN you have to walk before you can run. we proved we can crawl, and last season began to walk. now we have to show that we can walk really well, before we can run. bama's a runner. we are just getting our legs under us. if we can win out this season, it will be the more natural progression. our schedule should have told all of us that. but we are new at this, so let's see if we can walk away after the season with an eye toward running next year.

this year wasnt as bad as last year......we lost at home to a bad auburn team last year and lost on the road at a top 5 arkansas team. this year we lost at 2 top 5 teams LSU and Florida. Nobody but us expected us to win those games and as it turns out they were right. Had we played our game though it would have been different.
next year uga wont sniff the east though.

It isn't either A or B, its a combination of the two. Georgia has 1 loss to an East opponent, just like we do and just like Florida does. They won in part because they somehow got a favorable 'adjustment' to the schedule and got Ole Miss rather than LSU.
Going into FL with Marcus hurt meant that Spurrier pulled out his chunk it around gameplan, and the team played like somebody had greased the footballs. I try to be at least somewhat objective, and I think if SC played Florida 10 times we would beat them 7-8. But on the day that counted they didn't, so in that sense the team has no one to blame but themselves. |

I agree, Mick. We fumbled away any chance to say anything about it. So we need to STFU and watch the divisional champs play in Atlanta, like everyone else in America. Maybe next years team will play to its potential every week, if it doesn't it will be watching again.

Of course it sucks to fans of the Gamecocks to see UGA get back to the SECCG when we hammered them. BUT ALL SEC GAMES COUNT AS EQUAL, and I think it should remain that way. Personally I prefer seeing the SEC go to a 9 game conf. schedule but I just do not see them doing that.
IF the SEC wanted to get creative and really put a fine point on things at the end of the season they could decree that all teams get their out of confrence games out of the way early in the year including long time rivalries. And then reserve the final two weeks of the regular season as a SEC playoff system to be concluded in the SECCG. That would involve a lot of moving parts, and would cause some teams to have fewer home games than they otherwise might. But just off the top of my head I think something like that is doable and it would further the progress towards a real playoff system. |

I don't think it's whining by pointing out the only reason uga is playing for the SECCG is because of their schedule. Uga is not the best team in the east and they werent the best team in the east last year. It is what it is

OK let's be honest...we played our two worst games in arguably our two most important games. We lost.
If we play good fundamentals...maybe we win both. Alabama wins the important games...Georgia, so far, has won the games necessary to get them in the SEC championship. Bottom line is if WE take care of business the door stays open...if we don't...we close the door in our own face. GO COCKS !! |

Even if Georgia makes it to Atlanta for the second time in a row, they will not win. Alabama is going to embarrass them.

How do I feel about UGA backing into the SEC champ game? OK, it is what it is. We should have beaten LSU, crapped the bed against Florida. All we need to do is win out to be 10-2 again this year (third year of 10+ wins). I am OK with it, we are close to taking that big last step & that is consistent SEC east champs.

Last year we played poorly (to put it mildly) against auburn. This season we totally messed the bed against UF. To me, Mike Slive didn't go out there and turn it over like a dozen times in those two games so I don't think it mattered that UGA had it easy. Just sets them up for a fail of a finish, again. |
