Microsoft has received a patent for technology that would enable the Xbox Kinect hands-free controller to spy in on your living room to see how many people are watching movies or listening to music.

"The benefits for Microsoft and content providers goes far beyond protecting copyright; it allows them to establish entirely new pricing for content. Only one person watching this movie? That’ll be $2. There’s 10 of you? Well, you’re going to have to cough up $15. And you’d better hope nobody shows up late to the party."
Wow.

Yeah I am sure that would be allowed. If I had one, I would just take a picture of only one person sitting in the room and stick it in front of the connect.

The kinect creeps my wife and me out so when we aren't using it we either put it away, behind the tv, or turn it around.

Then disconnect the kinect when you're watching movies.

But I'm calling BS. They wouldn't do this because think if you're watching a movie during a party, and there's like 25 people watching. You could just buy the movie on DVD for $20.

Why does that matter to them? You'll then get a bill for $50 and have to pay it ... or call and complain and speak to 10 different people to finally get it taken off.

Sounds like this is a violation of some rights. 10th amendment maybe?

Well companies trying to spy on their customers is becoming an issue. And a creepy one.
I wonder if they'll cut out your movie if they can't spy on you? Will the kinect be required in order to view movies or music through xbox live? It confuses me because so many people (like myself) don't have kinects. |

My playstation doesn't do that. I'm sure they do with the ps eye though.

This is of no concern to me. Netflix/redbox and blockbuster could get my business. Microsoft is going to lose a good bit of money on doing this. Not only movie/music business, but probably future console buyers. One thing all people in this country agree on is they don't like outsiders invading their privacy and Microsoft is about to attack that. Also if other companies follow suit with this, then piracy will go through the roof.

Imagine all the nasty things they'd see if they did that. "Eww...they aren't watching a movie..oops!" Turn it off and let's go somewhere else" " No man I can't! It's like watching a train wreck, I just can't look away!!" "You're gross!" "Shutup"

I was thinking something similar.
I mean, what if the person watching the movie finds a part of it.......sexy |
