Run blocking has been terrible. The pass protection has been surprisingly good when the defense just rushes straight up. But these guys are absolutely clueless on even the most simple delayed blitz or stunt.

But if there's anything holding back the offense it's Connor's play. He was solid yesterday but still left a ton of plays on the field. Don't know what happened but seems like he's hardly thrown a decent deep pass this season.

Its not Spurrier that you have to worry about shaking up the staff. Its other teams that you have to worry about, "stealing" coaches for their teams. When teams are successful, other teams want your assistant coaches. That's more of a worry then Spurrier.

Well considering what the line was when he got here you have to say he has made some real progress. He is finally getting the talent and depth he needs so IMO he deserves another year. It would help if we would just stick to one basic offense and scheme from there, this combination of read option, pro style, and Spurrier's attempts at the old Fun and Gun is hardest on the o-line. What happened to the short passing game and the Wheel Rout?

Yes but even when you take into consideration that he missed 1 1/2 games he has the fewest att of all of them. The only one that comes close is Driskel.

Connor is a Zone Read QB. He can be a decent pocket passer, but he
is at his best when he can roll out or move around. We FINALLY figured

Shaw could have become a consistently good drop back and pass guy, but

Unless we get the line playing like an SEC Caliber line is capable of playing
Connor Mitch and Brandon Nosovich will suffer the same fate. If our
coaching staff wants to compete for the SEC Title next year we have to
re-evaluate a couple of position coaches (3 at least IMO). Make the
changes or suffer a team that is going to be less than it is capable of
being.

The pass protect on the line is good for the most part. It seems to me they struggle with run blocking.

I agree. Anyone who thinks USC has more talent on the OL than these teams is deluding himself. LSU and UT consistently out recruit USC at all positions, year in and year out, even in down years. Why? Because of who they are. It doesn't matter who the coach is. Those two schools are able to recruit nation wide, something USC is not able to do, with the lone exception of a coach who has contacts in the northeast. Wasn't it Tony Morrell who said that, for the most part, USC will have to continue to coach up their talent, despite the recent rise in success. That means it will take time to develop the players.

Exactly....we will never be able to get the same quality players year in and year out as the national names. How many OL/DL names have we put in the NFL over the last 10-20 years.....nobody on the OL and John Abraham on DL......I'm talking about consistent starters, not just players on a NFL team.

WHAT?!!! No disrespect but do u not understand how much difference playing against an elite D & a weak D! I tried telling u that when u were saying bench Connor & start Dylan! QBs are gonna typically have better games against bad D's...Connor has done a great job since he has been here...he holds onto it a little too long at times but I would much rather have a sack than a TO or a pick 6! U live to play another down

WELL SAID FLAME!!! He was .01 percent from leading the SEC in passer rating last year too. Is he perfect...NO...no QB is...but is he one of the best QBs to ever put on a Garnet & Black jersey...to me he is...& I don't get many realistic arguments that prove otherwise

Travelle Wharton has been one of the Panthers best players for years...I think for a while was the 2nd highest paid behind JPepp for a while. Also Jeanpoerre & Merideth have started most games on OL this year. But on the DL Abraham & now Ingram are the only ones on that side that make a big contribution

Right now, Connor Shaw statistically is the best QB in the history of Gamecock football.
Comparing him to the Top 20 all time, his W-L % is untouchable, his completion % is 5 pts higher than the 2nd best (Blake) and his TD-INT ratio is way ahead of anyone else.
He's also won SEC Offensive POTW at least 3 times in 2 seasons and is still showing improvement week to week.

And he still has 16+ games to play.

our OL is not the issue...Shaw has time to pass, but he has happy feet. He will never be a true drop-back passer, he'd good at the zone-read, beast even...but he'll never be the drop back guy some people want him to be.
