Oregon didn't offer him a scholly. It came down to uva, ga tech and us.

Nos was the Parade All American QB, and broke HS records set by Terrell Pryor for PA. He's an outstanding duel threat QB who will give us a great option next year and going forward, regardless of who we bring in at QB. This coming season we are STACKED at QB, w/ 5 scholly QB's.

Shaw (Sr) - 2&1/2 year starter Duel Threat

Thompson (RS Jr) Pocket Passer, but can move well. Started 2 games, totaled about 4 games worth of experience, effective passer, knows the routes, and has good timing.

Clifford (Rs Jr) Pocket Passer, rarely used, but has been in the system several years, knows the plays.

Nosovitch (Rs Fr) Parade All American, duel threat.QB.

Stacked? Maybe better off than the past few years just with depth but stacked might be a bit too far. Whenever people are discussing an incoming freshman who hasn't practiced with us competing for the number 2 spot it's either b/c he's that good or the competition isn't.

Yea I think stacked is the wrong word. Some depth maybe but not stacked.

We have only 1 proven winner in Shaw, and we've seen how he performs against tough Defenses and especially on the road in tough environments. At home he is serviceable.

Thompson had 2 good games against very weak out of conference competition. When he has come in against SEC teams he has look plain awful.

Nosovitch will be a RS freshman, won't really know much at all until the Spring, but really until he gets in a game. Remember all the talk about Tanner showing out in practice...look where he is...gone. So nothing you can count on here as of yet.

Mitch...true freshman...we don't know anything about how he will adjust to college life, learn playbook, get quicker, faster, etc. Lots of talent yes, but nothing we can count on here and if we end up playing a true freshman in the SEC we are headed for a bad year anyway.

So Stacked...No. I'd say we're headed into next year with Shaw and Thompson at #2 and a pending Nosovitch.

nosovich is an excellent qb, he is a dual threat qb and is going to be in direct competition for the starting job the entire time he is here. mitch is more of a pro style guy, and he will also be in direct competition for the starting role the entire time he is here as well. our qb position will be in good hands for a long time to come.

According to GCC Nosovich has impressed a lot of older players with his work on the Scout team. He seems to still have a bit of learning to do (which is not unexpected since he hasn't had a Spring yet to get any real reps in) but is completing a lot of passes on Monday Night Lights. He obviously has the skills but only time will tell if that will translate to the playing field.

And, that is the way that Johnny Manziel and Colin Klein play too, although CK is much bigger than Shaw, Noso, and Manziel. It works at the college level very well.

That's sort of how I feel with Mitch and the reason I think people (a lot of people on Cockytalk) have unrealistic expectations for the guy just because he's the first 4* QB since Garcia that SC will have gotten. I think ESPN sums it up nicely in their scouting report:

The worry with Mitch is that this scheme is so bubble screen heavy that there are limited throws downfield and it is tough to gauge his ability to decipher coverage changes and work through progressions. Almost everything thrown is underneath or in the screen game.
