Many here have become spoiled and forgotten our past pretty quickly. Dooley's team has been good on O, great on the OL but if Lane didn't leave him Bray he'd have an even worse record. They have no running game, no DL, no secondary and nothing on the sidelines to make it better next year. It's all about results and he hasn't produced. Seems like a good guy but he's a coach and UT brought him there to be the anti kiffin, which he is but he's nowhere near being an SEC contender. if they have the $ to buy him out (which they should) and go after a big time coach, they should.

Dooley was a necessary hire for UT at the time...he's done what they needed him to do for the short term and has proven he's not the next Johnny Majors.
Don't see Jon Gruden at all...never coached CFB...could be as big a mistake as hiring Kiffen. Patterson is a good pick.

My take: if UT has a big name already to take the job( Like a Gruden or Petrino), then yes...they should fire Dooley... If they don't have a big name, then they should not fire him....

True. If and only if Gruden gets back into coaching, he's not coming back to finish as the HC at UT. Assuming he gets them back to competitive, he's out in 3-4 years and back to the NFL. The guy has a Super Bowl ring as a HC and he won't settle for 2-3rd place in Knoxville when the NFL comes knocking again and they will if he has some immediate success in the SEC.

I honestly don't think Gruden is the best option for Tennessee. Just because he had some success in the NFL and won a Super Bowl doesn't mean he would do well at the college level. Think of it the other way with Spurrier/Saban going to the NFL and sucking.

Tennessee can't afford to gamble on their next hire. There are a lot of proven college coaches out there Tennessee should try to hire.

I think you gotta' live or die with him if you're Dooley. You made your hire and retooled your personnel, your tenure at UT will depend on it (if he makes it to another season). You could conceivably bring in another 3-4 guy, guy but good luck selling another contract and buyout to your AD and potential candidates. What if we would have fired Spurrier after the Tye Nix era?

That can't be. There have been numerous posts on Viles' threads talking about how the contract negotiations between JG and the Viles is near completion and the announcement could happen any minute now (for the past 2+ weeks).
