As a coach myself, I have to say, there no room for putting your hands on an athlete, unless you are actually coaching technique or demonstrating how you want something done. Football is a physical game, and coaches do get involved while coaching technique. However, riding a player and putting your hands on them out of meanness or frustration or spite is in no way a good example for that young men. We are role models, we are to carry ourselves the way we desire those young men carry themselves when we aren't around. There's no room in coaching for that kind of stuff or what Tubberville did to his assistant.

Washington State knew exactly what they were getting into with this guy. They probably had this response set up before they even announced the hire, to cover their ass as a risk procedure in case of allegations. They will "conduct an investigation", turn up nothing, exonerate the coach, and the Wilson will go on to play for someone else.

Unless of course Leach turns out to be a raving maniac who can't keep his hands off people... but I doubt it. I am not buying this whole "physical abuse" bullshit from a disgruntled former athlete who took his frustrations out on being let go in the media, not through attorneys, which is how we would REALLY know if it was true. Had he contacted attorneys and sued the school, then the chances of it being true were much bigger. But a "press release"? Come on.

I played for a lot of coaches in several different sports in my lifetime. I was cussed at, made to run laps, crab walks up hill and back, be the center in bull in the ring, all sorts of tortuous things that made waterboarding seem innocent.

Though, not once, not one single time, did a coach ever lay a hand on me in anger or disgust. There is a line, putting down ones personal beliefs and laying hands on someone crosses that line.

My coaches were coaches because they could no longer play, I'd have beaten the crap out of anyone who laid a hand on me, some parent might just have to teach Leach this lesson.

The guy is verbally abusive and uses his position to berate and belittle his players. If he wasn't in a position of authority, none of them would tolerate it...but they have to (except for one)...because he's their coach and none of them can do anything about it. He's lucky someone hasn't bashed his face in.

My Granddad was a DI at Parris Island during the Korean Conflict. There's a difference between getting someone ready for WAR and getting someone ready to play a GAME. After asking him, my grandad did not once pull the religion card on any one soldier, that's against the rules. Race card, not so much.

After asking my Brother he said the same thing. They try to embarrass you enough to commit suicide, but they don't really mess around with religion.

Both are charged with molding young men with both dicipline and the art of competition. A football locker room is a dirty place and Im sure a lot of coaches have gone ape shit after a game. I think people are reading too much into the God Squad thing as well. Adam James and his dad have also been proven to be liars.

There is no comparison to comparing young men to play a GAME as apposed to them going to WAR.

I was lucky enough to play a GAME myself, I know how coaches CAN be. I remember being 15 and having a coach eat me alive, but there are lines. If Leach crossed one, whether it be physical or religious, then the guy needs an ass whoopin' to correct that.

Bringing a bit of parental perspective here.

Both of my sons play sports and are entering the age where the coaching has (thankfully) moved beyond the "everyone is a winner" mentality. Their coaches push them to get better all the time and to bring their best effort. Sometimes, that coaching means some yelling in order to get my sons to understand that they can do better and that their current performance is hurting the team. If my sons aren't doing what they need to do, or they have to sit on the sidelines because the coach believes that other players will help him win, so be it. That's life -- you don't get to play if you don't do what the coach tells you to do.

That said, if I EVER thought that a coach was mentally, emotionally or physically abusing one of my sons, I would personally kick his ass.

I'm not sure what's going on in the Washington State program, but if Leach has established a culture where abuse is the norm, he needs to be fired -- immediately.

There isn't any evidence of any physical abuse, therefore this entire so-called investigation will come down to he said-he said between Leach and his player(s). If the allegations are bullshit, and the team backs up their fellow teammate who left and goes after Leach by ratting him out to the school, then that says a lot about them. Because I 100 percent believe this is bullshit. If Leach was "physically abusing" players, the first thing we would hear out of Wilson is a press conference with an attorney and a lawsuit, not a "press release"

Some of you who are already hanging Leach obviously have some axe to grind because there is nothing suggesting physical abuse including the lack of even circumstantial evidence, or any litigation, or even litigation against the school or the AD by Wilson (which would have definitely been the case had actual physical abuse happened). All we have is a kid making his case in the media. That's a sign.
