You mean "a lot of times Shaq just plain dropped the ball". That's what I've been noticing. He also isn't running his routes properly, which is the biggest problem with freshmen.

We could have used a breakout freshman superstar at wideout, but we don't have one. I do feel like we need to get just a few more of the really elite guys pretty soon. We need our next gilmore/lattimore/alshon/clowney and he ain't on the team right now. Next years SC class looks to be better than the last couple.

Hate to be "that guy" but I will. Still think we missed on Quinshad Davis from Gaffney. Although it's the ACC, he's put up some decent #'s at UNC this year.

Mike Davis and Shaq Roland have the potential to be great players for us. This O is loaded with playmakers. Ace, Bruce, Adams, Busta, Davis, and Roland. We just have to figure out how to get them the ball more. It all comes back to QB play and blocking and execution.

Quinshad is the most discussed player that never played a down.

It's most important to have rock stars at OL and DL. With the exception of a freak like Clowney, those guys don't develop until a few years down the road. Our problem for many years was that we had no rock stars on the OL. Let's look back at this class in 5 years and see how the linemen turned out.

You don't really give a class a true evaluation until about 3 years. Did players develop into starters and playmakers, not many transfers, good leaders, etc.

But the OP is just pointing out that we didn't have a breakout stud player like Alshon, Lattimore or Clowney. Those just don't come around that often

We've given Shaq a shot, but he has too many drops and really we don't throw a lot (looking at the season as a whole). Davis hasn't really had enough carries, so he could still be a diamond in the rough.

You never "need" a player like Clowney if you have 2 all conference DE's but the way linemen are rotated in the SEC it certainly helps to have a beast like that to come right in and play.

meh, you're splitting hairs about word choice. Davis has not had a breakout year, but he also hasn't been given enough carries to do so either. So, we don't know if he's going to be an Elite SEC RB yet, but he could be a diamond in the rough.

We had one every year for the past several though, counting gilmore forward. There is not one in this class. Maybe the DB who got injured was it. The safety was doing great until he got hurt too.

Shaq hasn't dropped easy passes though. He's been inches away from making a couple highlight reel catches.

Our rockstar freshman is a WR who can't catch the football yet, for some crazy reason, wears #4. Which I find completely insulting to Sidney.

He's had his share of passes this season and a decent amount for being a true freshman. He's made 5 completions for 80 yds and a TD total. From what I've seen this season I've seen more drops than completions. Given that not all of them were the easiest to catch, some did hit him in the hands and even helmet. He's young, hopefully he'll get it all figured out soon and be productive for us.

I think many are spoiled that the past few years not only did some top recruits from the state come in but they were also top in the country. Not only that, but they developed faster than could be expected.

The three players mentioned are exceptions to the rules and we are very fortunate they are gamecocks. I'm sure there are some freshman who will contribute in the next year or two, but we are not in the situation that we depend on it anymore.

there were so many excellent freshmen players who redshirted this year, that we will be stacked next year, and with the class we have put together for next year, it is going to be insane how good this team is in 13'.
