FSU Coach Jimbo Fisher blasted the BCS, saying that the computer rankings are ruining everything. Coach Fisher requested a return to the "eye test", where the champion is picked by human voters at the end of the year, not by play.

FSU (9-1) is currently sitting behind three straight 2 loss SEC teams in the BCS standings.

Before BCS it wasn't 1 versus 2 in any poll no matter how computed. There was no such match-up it was the traditional conference bowl alignments and then we guestimate who looked the best. The new poll was just part of the system matching up 1 versus 2. It has worked out every season except 2004 imop. Was a vast vast improvement over the days when voters just had to guess based on how bad the pac-12 team smoked the big 10 team or how much bama won the sugar bowl by. P.S. Jimbo, STFU you lost to a horrible NC State team and your defense will be exposed in your bowl game.

Although there are certainly some occasional variables that can not be accounted for in a computer's data analysis, these computer rankings are extremely valuable. As with any formula, it is constrained by the parameters that have been set for the formula. Therefore, we have the ability to continue to make them better use the data we have available.

The reason people get up in arms about them sometimes is because nobody wants to admit that an objective, computer-based decision model is better than a human's decision. There will always be the argument "they can't take into account everything a person can". Well, that is certainly true. However, they also aren't affected by the influences and biases that are natural to human perception and decision-making.

This argument is found a lot in employment selection systems. Despite the overwhelming data that indicates how validated selection tests and structured interviews best predict job performance, many employers still choose to simply interview someone informally and make the "eyeball judgment" which is somewhat accurate at predicting job performance but pales terribly in comparison to alternative, "non-human" selection devices.

The computer rankings aren't perfect at all and they may not be better than human rankings, but we can always make them better.

Also, can't wait for a 6-8 team playoff or anyformat that lets the SEC get multiple teams in. Will be cool to have an All SEC final and/or final four like in baseball a couple years ago.

Typical ACC response. When free shoes u. plays in a real conference, then Jimbo can be upset. I live in the upstate and have to listen to the media hype clemsux for an at large BCS bowl. Note: clemsux has beaten 2 teams with better than .500 records (Ball State and Duke) WOW what an accomplishment.

The original goal of the BCS was to ensure a match up of the top two ranked teams in the championship game. Many times the human polls don't agree with each other and they tried different formulas over the years to determine a "consensus" top two teams. With the current system the computer polls have taken the roll of the tiebreaker. If the human polls disagree the computers will break that tie, particullarly for teams with the same record. Also, they are only 1 third of the rankings with the human polls the other 2 thirds. The computers diminish the effect of human bias that has been an issue before, the computers ignore margin of victory and the date the game is played.

FSU has little to complain about. All they need to do is win a weak ACC to get a BCS bid. When they go undefeated and get left out then they can complain. Bama is a team that may have a complaint but I don't expect to hear any from them. If three teams finish undefeated one of those will have a complaint and a valid one.

Teams like FSU will still be whining and complaining after the 4 team playoff starts and it'll be more amusing then.

The pollsters rank FSU too high at the beginning of every year based solely on their name brand. FSU always has a good position at the start of the race but they always screw up to a dipstick team and people have to face reality that they aren't Bowden's 90's Noles.

the ultimate problem is the bcs bowls should take who ever is ranked in order not by conference affiliation . ridiculus that clemson may get a better bowl than we do if we beat them.

Alabama beat three teams with a winning record in the regular season last year and somehow was still number 2 even though Oklahoma St. had a tougher SOS. Didn't hear any of you complaining about that.
