I'm not exactly who would be offered in a trade I just know that the Twins are looking more than likely to add an arm, looks like Denard Span would be more of a likely deal than Willingham anyway now. Also looks like Cody Ross is getting a look from us now.

Good I didn't wanna be left with that as our only option. Kinda like when we miss on brunette and others a few years ago and got hung with Lowe.

Yeah I wasn't too high on the Hunter idea. It would have felt like a better version of Garret Anderson. I like the Cody Ross idea. And he likes us. Would make around 9 million a year. That leaves around 16 million on the table to go after a lead off guy. Shane Victorino possibly.

Likely no. He's still very cheap because he is the same contract situation as Jason Heyward. Both played their first big league games in 2010. What they did yesterday was a salary firesale. All of those guys made big money. Stanton only makes about 500k. And he is their only marketing piece they have left.

But they are making unthinkable move after another so who knows

Didn't Ross turn down a multi year deal from us to sign with Boston last year? I think he will do as a back up plan but I'd at least try to make a run at BJ Upton 1st. I know Ross had that great series for SF but I've never been sold on him.

I think that was 2010. Because that was the year that we signed Melky (Good lord) and had an open outfield spot. Last year we didn't have an open outfield spot. And I remember he was talked about in the trade discussions in 2010 at the deadline when we got Ankiel instead. He likes Fredi. BJ Upton has scary good potential. But he strikes out a bunch. The idea of 2 Dan Ugglas in the same lineup is a scary thought. Both are very inconsistent. Can't sign both of them. Have to sign 1 power right handed bat and a leadoff man. Neither Upton or Ross are leadoff guys

I wouldn't mind this. A change of scenery could do him good. Still would prefer his brother though.

B.J. Upton is the Braves' top free agent target, reports MLB.com's Mark Bowman (on Twitter). The club had visions of signing both Upton and Torii Hunter this offseason, but the latter agreed to a two-year deal with the Tigers today.

Upton, 28, hit .246/.298/.454 with a career-high 28 homers in 633 plate appearances last season. He also stole 31 bases, his fifth straight season over 30. Upton would replace at least some of the speed and center field defense lost by departing free agent Michael Bourn, plus his right-handed bat would help balance Atlanta's lefty heavy level.

The Braves figure to lose Bourn this winter and Chipper Jones has retired, but Martin Prado's versatility would allow the club to pursue two outfielders rather than an outfielder and a third baseman. MLBTR's Tim Dierked ranked Upton as the fifth best free agent this offseason in his Top 50 Free Agents List, predicting he would sign with the Phillies.

Agreed. Gives us a solid right handed hitter in the lineup too and we could go after a left handed LF if we wanted.

Sounds like the sweepstakes for BJ Upton is going to be between us and the Phillies according to Buster Olney. Not sure I see us outbidding the Phillies at this point. I just hope we don't overpay for him if the Phillies offer a lot.
