This. I've done a fair amount of research on the topic for school and such. And there are many variables to the system, but the overall consensus for the stars are fairly accurate. A lot of time it may miss on undervaluing a player, but the star rankings hold up.

Reasons that you may be under valued as a highschool recruit:
Exposure
Team around you (RB with no OL)
Size
School you choose
Grades
so on and so forth.

Yup...many of them just need a year or two to develop and some grow into 5 star players while some 5 star recruits never show out at the next level and bust.

Some folks also don't realize that a lot of starters for teams like Bama and LSU were 3 star recruits who elevated their games.

Yeah obviously that's not realistic but it doesn't take away from my point. All I'm saying is if you pick a random 3 star out of all high school football players and match him up with a random 5 star there is a better chance the 5 star will have the better career.

I don't complain when our coaches want a 3 star over a 4 star, because they've made an evaluation on each guy and one was better than the other. Stars are meaningless on this basis, but on the grand scale they matter a lot.

Well, Devin Taylor was 6'7", about 215 or 220 when he signed with us if I remember correctly. If he's 6'8", 240, seems like he could follow DT's track.

I thought Smith was a 4* db and only recently started playing RB. I could be wrong but it seems like our staff is going after guys that play both sides of the ball, which is pretty smart. Not sure if that's a vote "for" or "against" the stars argument.

Dutch Fork has some kids coming up that are going to be big time players, I'd love to see the pipeline to USC continue. I can't think of one Dutch Fork kid that has gone to Clemson to play football. Garret Anderson, Joey Scriber Howard, Blair Lowery, Branden Davis, Erik Kimrey all ended up in the garnet and black.

I think that is a major difference in this years cycle for us than any year in the past. In the past we would take these athletic guys with hopes that we could grow them into producers for their last two years. The last 2 years we have brought in a bunch of guys who are mush more physically ready to play when they get here. Our skill and depth on our roster is light years beyond anything we have ever seen...

He is a great player and I hate to lose him but if we do I hope to see us go after a true cover CB. There are still a few top shelf CB's out their. He has a great opportunity to play early here if he does decide to stick.
