I have a question for someone on here that has played OL or understands the position very well. I have a few friends that played there in the 60's and 70's, but never with a offense like we have. Question, it seems to me it would be easier rather than more difficult to block on zone read plays because the QB reads where the OL blocks are going and then makes a decision based on that as to whether he keeps it or not and where the play is going. In other words, the OL takes the DL/LB where he wants to go, opening the hole for the QB/RB.....so the OL uses zone blocking.

If there is a zone block you really dont know ahead of time who your man is until the ball is snapped.
I saw AJ Cann let a LB through because the LB delayed his blitz. Cann thinks he has no one to block so he goes to help out Shell. The LB then scooted straight in behind Cann right to Shaw.

And that is why we need to drop the zone read crap and play a conventional under center formation with the I when we run. The only reason we run this zone is because Shaw is not a drop back passer. I know Spurrier would give his left nut to have that.

I thought there was talk in the spring earlier this year that Ronald Patrick to Center for the 2012 season was being looked at? Obviously it didnt happen considering TJ has played center all year but with him now graduating and if my claim is true then e should be seeing Ronald Patrick taking over the center position. His bio on GamecocksOnline said he was TJ's backup for the 2010 season (2011: Sophomore offensive lineman who moved back to his more familiar position of guard in the spring after spending last fall as the backup center behind T.J. Johnson...)

Agree, he turns and blocks no one way too often. He's got the size for sure but we need to upgrade the play at that position. My money is on the Stadnicks to get some snaps next season. The boys are beasts, from my neck of the woods.

I played OL in HS and college, and now I'm a high school OL coach/Offensive Coordinator. What is your question, because I don't see one....?

I agree with you. I think I am in the minority here with regard to the hit on Marcus though. Admittingly I am coming at this from the mindset that you get a ball carrier down by any legal means necessary. I'm not even going to get into what I feel are BS rules to protect the QB and recievers, I'll just focus on getting a ball carrier down. If I'm out there trying to make a play on a back like ML I am NOT going to hit that guy high in the open field...straight up and man to man is different but if he has room to manuver I am going low and I am going to take his legs, knees, ankles out the best way that I can. I always tried my best to not only go low on big backs but to also wrap up around the knees and ankles...whatever I could get a hold on. I do not think that is dirty, it is just hard nosed football...by the rules as they exist today.

if I remember correctly they found it when he was a freshmen...I think he almost never played a down for us, instead played 4 or 5 years
