So someone, Legalcock I think, mentioned his name in another thread so I went and took a look at what he was doing at Arkansas State.

They are 7-3 (5-1). Looks like his team is in the top 25 in rushing and top 50 in passing.

They just put a beat down on America's early season darling (UL-Monroe) recently.

Maybe he can coach a little bit..

They finish the season with Troy and MTSU (who also has 1 conference loss) .. That MTSU game on 12/1 is going to be one I'll watch.

Yeah I watched some of that game Friday night. I really think he's the real deal. I mean Chad Morris is just some high school coach who begged him to teach him his system and boom now he's one of the most successful OCs out there. Plus I still remember what his offenses did to us at R-kansas too. Also, the Sunbelt is real strong this season and I think they're set up to win it or win their division or the conference or whatever since they won last week. I'm not saying I would hand him the keys to my program tomorrow if I'm r-kansas or auburn, but maybe in a couple years...


I'll definitely try and watch the 12/1 game as well. Stock is another guy to keep an eye on. He's been doing a good job there and we know he would load up the cupboards even if he didn't get it done, so to me it is a low risk hire. It is nice to be putting out successful coaches and building a program "coaching tree" of guys who can help us keep the giant awake. Wolfie is also not sucking at youngstown state.

Maybe splitting hairs, but they went 10-3 with a loss @ Illinois too... after going 4-8 in '09 and '10.

In '08 they went 6-6 (wins over powerhouses N. Texas, FAU, ULM, Midd Tenn, Texas Southern, and...um...oh yeah, Texas A&M.)

It's really not much of a reach for a program like Arkansas to hire Malzahn as HC. After Auburn won the NC, Malzahn was offered the Vandy HC job and turned it down. Something weird went down at Auburn and he ended up at ArkSt a year later. I'm surprised he isn't in more discussion for Ark, Aub, UT jobs.

I don't think that he got along with the head coach that well at auburn. Plus, he was probably worried about what the ncaa might find. At any rate, I would be surprised if he doesn't get offered a big time job in the next couple of months. I expect Charlie Strong to be on the move too. The OC at clemtech will probably be gone after next year. I don't know if he gets grabbed up this year or not.

His wife is wacko so he's going to have to prove it as a head guy at ASU apparently. He couldn't even get the UNC job last season. One year at ASU is probably not enough to shine him on up to Auburn, but we'll see.
