Of all the other Head Coaches in the SEC, Dooley was a guy I really
admired for his coaching style and his down to earth approach to the
game and disipline. Unfortunately, it wasn't going to get him a lot of points
without the Ws in Tennessee. He was a good man, and I really think a
good Old School coach, but unfortunately too, those kinds of coaches don't
last long with a program that is looking for getting back to it's nationally
recognized status. Hate that it didn't work out for him and wish him all
the luck in the world with his future as a coach.

Here is how I see it playing out.

Start with Gruden.

Move on to Stoops.

Then move on to Jim Mora Jr./Mike Gundy/Gary Patterson

Then to Charlie Strong/Al Golden/James Franklin/Jimbo Fisher

Hopefully we don't fall below that.

If he could have just closed out that Florida game (we were up 7 with the ball in Florida territory with 3 min left in 3rd Qtr) then his tenure could have been very different.

Everything was riding on that game...and he let the opportunity slip away.

Very true. All things being equal, he could have been the difference against LSU, and then who knows how different things would have been against Florida, though that was just one of those disaster games.
Not to go too far off topic, but quite a few people on this board were calling for us to go after him. I'd read that it was debatable who expressed a lack of interest first (us or him) but the bottom line is there was a huge miss on that evaluation by the staff.

Stoops? zero chance. Mora is meh, same for Gundy. Patterson would be the best hire, but I wanna see him vs SEC teams first.

Strong will not goto UT, Golden is a meh coach, Franklin would be an interesting hire, SEC East to SEC East. Great recruiter though. Doubt Jimbo leaves.

Regardless, UT may lose many talented guys to graduation/leavign early.. so whoever gets hired better not be expected to win anytime soon haha.

Personally I hope it is Gruden.. Recruits may want to play for him because of his name, but I just don't seem him succeeding in the SEC.

Mora and Gundy aren't Meh IMO, they are both great young coaches. I don't forsee either of them coming to TN though...could be wrong I guess.

Strong will not go to UT? Why wouldn't he? Huge upgrade for him, he is an SEC coach by nature and TN is one of the top 6 jobs in the SEC.

Agree Golden and Jimbo are Meh, and Franklin would be interesting. Just don't think our fanbase could wrap their heads around an ex Vandy coach as our coach.

Gruden is interesting because he hasn't taken his name out of the pot yet.

He could be angling for more tv money or he could be really interested in the Tenn job.

I also have to wonder though if he is waiting to see how the Carolina Panthers season plays out (or any of the other jobs that are sure to come open in the NFL) maybe he has the NFL itch again (but not the NFL itch that is attained from camp followers).
