If I'm FSU, I gotta' think about cutting out sending an equal share of my TV revenue to Duke and Wake and hell chapel hill and try and peel off GT, VT, miami and Clem. If UVA has to come then I take them but they might be ok with staying in an academic/basketball conference. With UVa I've got 6. Go get Louisville and Houston and then set up a big 12 type tv deal with larger payouts for the big school members.

Serious question here. Since most people already feel the ACC is the top dog in college basketball and the SEC is in football, why can't there be conferences devoted to one sport? I mean it could become an even more streamlined trainging ground for the NBA or NFL. I realize it's not quite that simple since some leagues are really strong in other sports too (baseball anyone?), but I think the basic premise could still work.

Remember, they will only be a partial member. I think it will take them being forced to join a conference in football for them to do it. The way that current deal is set up, there's really no incentive for them to join completely.

How would TV contracts go?

Because if that was how it was only football and basketball would then be on TV.
I feel like entire conferences play a part it letting the minor sports see TV time.

Big east had some basketball only members. Didn't work too hot. I think the A10 is a hoops only conference. So they have those, they just don't make shite for money because hoops is such small potatoes financially. Honestly, basketball needs to copy the rules from football regarding amature eligibility and when kids can get drafted.

While I have always felt 12 as the perfect number for conferences and I am not happy with 14, I would actually be willing to go up to 16 schools (it's going to happen, anyway) if the correct ACC teams join (NC State & VT) the SEC just to see the ACC fold. Payback for the way we were treated when we were in it would be wonderful.

With the loss of NCSt, VaTech, Taters and Noles, where exactly does that put ACC football. They'll throw them in with the Mountain West, USA, MAC, Big East that get 1 team to be part of the 12 including the final 4, starting in 2014.....so then ECU will be equal with UNC and Duke....now that's funny.

I think that might be the direction that we are headed in. While it might make a lot of financial sense for a team to join the Big XII for football, it does not make a whole lot of sense for any other sports team that the university fields. It has to suck for the volleyball players at WVU for mid-week games.

the ACC will take U-Conn... Louisville's academics are downright lousy... its one of the main reasons the Big 10 did not consider them, and the same reason they told WVU "no thanks" last year when they inquired about leaving the Big East for the ACC...

Lest you not know that is in every sport but Football? ND will never leave Independent status as a Football Program. ND was smart enough to take the ACC's Basketball money without giving up any Football dollars.

ND is only a scheduling agreement in football. ACC will get some better out of conference match-ups presumably giving them a slight bump in TV but they don't get notre dame home game revenues or any additional markets really. They basically get 2 or three games with an ACC team against notre dame per season as part of their TV package. There's a reason Big 10 wouldn't agree to any such nonsense. Notre Dame also gets to take ACC bowl slots in return. FSU was having budget difficulties last season, they would chew their arm off to get into big 12, sec or big 10 no matter what they say in public.

Coach K has said he thinks other teams will be leaving ACC especially if maryland gets out of the exit fee and the conference needs to form ranks and see who is staying before adding anyone else.
