South Carolina sophomore WR Bruce Ellington is still unsure about his football future and may solely focus on basketball.
This is nothing new for Ellington, and in fact is the standard answer at this time of the year. The sophomore is the team's leading receiver, but was very close to only concentrating on basketball last March. Perhaps the future NFL success of cousin, and Clemson running back, Andre Ellington will impact Bruce's future decision. Saw this report on the website and wasn't sure what to make of it. I know this came up last year but with him doing so well on the grid iron I figured that it had worked out for him and he would continue to do both. This is the first rumbling I have seen about this, has anybody heard that he would give up football full time next year? http://www.rotoworld.com/playernews/...llege-football Last edited by carolina2010; 11-20-2012 at 04:42 PM. Wow, this is a perfect example of how the media really is quite pitiful. This is a perfect case example for journalism students.
So the original quote came from Josh Kendall... "Bruce Ellington, leading WR, still undecided if he'll play football next year or concentrate solely on hoops." Now, the comment that was taken from that tweet that you referenced "South Carolina sophomore WR Bruce Ellington is still unsure about his football future and may solely focus on basketball." I know it came from Josh Kendall's tweet, because this guy says in the little blurb that the tweet is his source. But see the BIG difference there? Using the word "may" when that completely changes the context. Lets be honest, both quotes do, from a LITERAL standpoint, say the same thing. But there is a TON of difference in how they are going to be read. The second comment reads as if Bruce said something like "I may only play basketball next year." But that isn't what happened. |
