It only hurt them in that it could start a panic and when they add another basketball school it could add to the panic of the football schools. Doesn't hurt the basketball centric schools. They're already coasting through life sharing the $$$ from the football schools.

Yep. But in all honesty, I don't think the tobacco road crowd has ever REALLY cared about football. It's weird being in Raleigh around a bunch of folks that wait all year for basketball.

Here is my thought on the move. Maryland was probably tired of the extreme favoritism in the two big sports and they really need the money. So why not move to a new conference that will generate significantly more revenue and will likely re-energize the fanbase? Plus, I think their recruiting might improve just because they will be in a conference that is considered to be more competitive in football (yes they've sucked this year, but I mean overall), and they have a strong basketball tradition as well, so I think it was probably a smart move.

You probably could just stop with that. All those other things are nice, but really don't matter when cash is involved.

The guy totaly ignored that the ACC lost it's third biggest TV market (behind boston and the atl. ) If TV is the main reason BC was added, then there should be wailing and nashing of teeth in Greensboro.

Let's be real here...if a mid level team like Maryland can get poached by the Big Ten, why can't a bigger name get poached too?

Swofford woke up to a hot cup of "Oh F*ck" the other morning...there is no way around that. ANd the room of hookers known as the Big East just perket up because the phone rang again from the ACC.

Sad thing is that had all of those schools stayed in the Big East, and added the best of who they have added, that would be a pretty good conferece. Much better than the ACC now.

Maryland didn't like expansion...they didn't like losing the NC - Duke rivalries that were pretty good. So...the idea is that if everyone is out for money...if the ACC expansion is all about the benjamins....screw it...we gotta do what we gotta do....

If the payday is as big as predicted, then Maryland made the right move. The ACC is quickly becoming the equivalent of Conference USA in football. FSU should leave as soon as they can.

i only had to read the first line that said for the acc to lose maryland would be like a car losing its spare tire before i knew this guy wasn't worth reading. now if he would have said losing maryland would be like a moped losing it's spare tire, i might have read it. maryland is just one of the ten weak teams in the acc. the acc is more of a two stroke engine than it is a car.

It IS really weird. They're talking about college basketball like during football season, even right after it is over. It is just a different world from that perspective and that's ok it different, but i sure as hell wouldn't want to be a football school in a conference controlled by them.
