Even at his worst, he's not the type who's going to throw 4 picks in a game and blow it.

The flip side is that high risk tends to yield high rewards. The question is whether you'd like to play it safe and win consistently and hope we break through, or take more risks in games like LSU and hope they pay off. I know it's not a perfect analogy, but I think Connor just has it in his head that taking chances is bad, and in some cases, he's totally right.

The problem is if you never try to make the risky throws to win the close, important game, you will miss those throws 100% of the time.
No-one is asking him to take risks. Just throw the darn ball when Spurrier's play calls for it to be thrown. You're throwing to a spot not a person. He is waiting for the receiver to come open and that is not how this system works.

That got tiring, so Shaw's conservative and cautious approach has been a breath of fresh air for most fans, I think. Like you said, we know he won't blow a game by doing something utterly stupid, and that's truly a relief. But the dark side of that, so to speak, is that he sometimes handcuffs our offense when all he needs to do is just have a little more faith.
You don't think that putting the ball on the ground on our 2 yard line in the first snap of the game against UF was stupid??

I agree that he needs to learn to throw the ball faster and quit running at first sign of trouble but to say that he can't win on the road, which by the way were against two of the top defenses and hardest places to play, is a bit undersighted.
How is it under sighted. We lost the games. I said road games against big teams. Vandy and UK don't count.

I would love to hear one logical point behind that statement.
Because being injured physically has no bearing on his refusal to throw the ball when he is supposed to on plays where he should throw to a spot on the field. It is a timing route. Receivers have been wide open and he hasn't seen them. He just refuses to do it. Injuries have no bearing on decision making in that situation.

"Stupid"? Really? No. It's called getting hit and stripped by an unblocked defender coming in full speed on a blitz. It obviously wasn't a good offensive play, but I would not call it "stupid" on Shaw's part. "Stupid" would be repeatedly throwing it into double coverage.

If Shaw were playing behind Tennessee's OL then he would be considered one of the top three or four QB's in the nation. Our OL just can't consistently pass block. Shaw has all the tools except a quality OL.

Look at my post that goes play by play from the Wofford game. The OL definitely had its problems blocking the DE's at time. No doubt about. But Connor also took off a few times when he had GREAT protection. And this is not just my opinion. I watched the game play by play noting what happened on every single play. He took off when Tyler Bray would have sat in the pocket and thrown it. At least in the Wofford game, the problem was the line at times and Connor taking off at times.

I think the opposite is true...that many here over-rate Shaw because they are so jaded by the Garcia years.

Shaw has 2 games and one season left to show progression. Right now, he is essentially the same qb as when he started. I would even say he's regressed from the end of last season either from injuries or lack of confidence.

My friends and I always talk about how much we cuss him and yell during the game but afterwards look at the stats and are surprised. The issue with him isn't the throws he makes/attempts, but it's all the ones he doesn't.

He is a rhythm QB. If we can get him in a groove he'll light up the defense. Holding on to the ball, it's all him not having confidence.

Shaw is 16-3 as the starting QB at South Carolina.

He has a 67% completion percentage. Thats almost 7 completions for every 10 attempts.

He has a 15-7 TD to interception ratio.

He's rushed for 360 yards this year behind an average at best o-line.

You can bash the guy all you want, but CS is a gamer and he is an efficient QB that we are more than capable of winning with against any team.

I dont care if he made a mistake at LSU and threw a pic. I dont care if he fumbled on the first snap at Florida. Players make mistakes sometimes and lucky for us he doesnt make nearly as many as our oppeonets have made.......hence the 16-3 record as a starter.

If you cant get over the LSU and Florida game by now, go pull for Clemson and shut up.

Pass effeciency defense:

UF - 1st
LSU - 8th

I guess a host of other SEC teams should put their backups in too.

Agree...with Connor, people often don't look at the sum of the parts and instead pick and choose. Some of his skill set is above avg, some avg, and some below.

He has no physical limitations besides injuries that are preventing him becoming a high level SEC performer (like Johnny Football). His limitations are mental.

yeah, i mean since obviously everybody can pass on those teams. I dont see how connor didnt pass for 400 yards like Tajh Boyd did against Duke. I mean, DEFENSE IS DEFENSE RIGHT????

i dont know that i would call it a "mental limitation". I think he knows the offense front and back but he just doesnt force balls like we've seen in the past from garcia and smelly.

The mistake he makes is not making the entire progression and getting happy, unset footwork.
