Rodgers will never see the benefits, if any, that Mary experiences on the gridiron by the move to the B1G. It will take several years for such advantages to work their way into Mary's program which is in awful shape. Plus, Mary is probably going to be making a coaching staff overhaul in the next couple of years, if not sooner. Their HC constantly runs players off of the team, so that is not a "family" environment.

Going to the Big 10 just gives him a very strong tool to add to his arsenal in the Rodgers recruitment. If you remember when we struggled we still landed a few quality recruits per year based on being in the SEC. Everyone who wonders why these recruits want to go to less successful schools in good conferences needs to remember if that didn't happen we wouldn't have a winning record right now because that is what started turning us around years ago.

I assume he wants to play in the NFL....so how does playing for a 2-10 team in the Big 10 better than a 10-2 team in the SEC help him get in the NFL. The Big 10 conference is 4th in overall quality of football, behind SEC, Pac 12, and Big 12....especially if the Big 12 gets Fla St and the taters.

The Big 10 probably produces the most offensive lineman in the NFL. Second I you're one of the players instrumental in turning a team around many times you're making it to the NFL. Third Maryland is far better than 2-10 and everyone knows that. They have just had one of the most freakish runs of injuries this year that we've seen in a decade.

Maryland is Maryland no matter what conference they're in. They have a lousy football program....their record this year and the past 5-10 years speaks for itself.

And before Holtz got here we were an awful program for 100 years. Our program isn't the only one that can try to turn things around and sell that to recruits. We were pretty happy when it would work for us and we would steal recruits that in reality had no business coming here. Plus close to home is always a huge factor and Maryland is in his backyard.

The top offensive line prospect on the board for South Carolina is the 6-foot-5, 275-pound Rodgers. Rodgers visited Oklahoma in late September, but it appears the race for the Maryland prospect will come down to the Gamecocks, and the newest member of the Big 10, with Washington still playing the sleeper roll.

Mitchell on Rodgers’ recruitment: "Rodgers had been a heavy South Carolina lean for months and has made the drive down from Maryland for unofficial visits three times during the season. This week, with the news of Maryland's move to the Big Ten, Rodgers said that Maryland is now tied at the top with the Gamecocks. He'll take an official visit to Maryland in December and South Carolina in January but it would be a surprise if he doesn't ultimately end up in Columbia. He plans to announce at the Under Armour All-American game."

I would be shocked if he didn't come here. He brought his Dad, Mom, Step Dad, Brother etc...to different games here on several visists. We've led for a really long time and we need him. This is a win/win for all of us, but we'll have to wait until the all star game.

That lead will be tested this weekend, however, when Rodgers makes his official visit to Maryland with his mother and step father. He visited Washington, his father's alma mater, last weekend by himself. He also has been to Oklahoma and Nebraska and will visit USC January 18th. Gamecock coach Steve Spurrier made his in home visit with Rodgers earlier in the week. "It was pretty cool," Rodgers said. "It was my first time sitting down and meet with coach Spurrier and talking to him. They want me to come in and get plugged in anywhere." Spurrier has been the only head coach to visit Rodgers to this point and he's not sure when any of the others are coming in. Rodgers will announce his decision at the Under Armour Game in early January.
