How the hell did "elite" become some widespread honorary to bestow upon a QB? Does Phil Simms realize that "elite" is just a word and not a ****ing Academy Award? It doesn't mean anything. A QB doesn't get a $500,000 roster bonus because Tom Jackson declares him elite. It's the ultimate empty sports topic because you can declare a QB elite based off any criteria you pull out of your ass: winning Super Bowls, All Pro appearances, your gut instinct, how much of a semi Gruden gets when he sees Colin Kaepernick play well, etc.
It's an insult to sports fans in this day and age to still try to make a real issue out of something so pathetically empty. When you argue about whether or not a QB is elite, what you're basically saying to the world is, "I don't have anything to say." Eli Manning? NOT ELITE. Ryan Reynolds? NOT A MOVIE STAR. So cut it out, people. I don't care who your blue chippers are, or who your All Iron award winners are, or who rates five stars on Mikey's QB Star Chart. You are wasting lives going over this shit.

The part I agree with him most about is that the tag "elite" is being pushed by CBSSports and ESPN and the like as some manufactured talking point/controversy.

I'm all for open debate as to who the best QBs in the league are, and to have differing criteria in evaluating this, I just think it is stupid that the word "elite" is being used like it is some sort of definitive standard or achievement to be reached. Say "Rodgers, Brady, Brees are the best QBs in football this season", don't say "Rogers, Brady, Brees are ELITE, but Eli Manning and Matt Ryan are NOT ELITE" like that actually means something.

Elite...seems only Peyton, Brady and Brees are there...wins + stats + titles. Aaron Rodgers is emerging and Eli is debatable due to his SB wins.

Another title is "franchise" player...a guy who is or going to be a long term starter and who has either lots of wins or potential.
This is where Matt Ryan, Matt Schaub, Stafford, Rothlesburger, Flacco, Eli, Newton, RGIII, Luck, etc; are added to the above list.
I'm not sure Russell Wilson isn't emerging as a franchise guy, while guys like Phil Rivers and possibly Tony Romo are suspect.

Rodgers (best QB by a good margin IMO)
Peyton
Brady
Brees
Eli - Just barely. Has too many stretches like the one he's currently in. The worst of the group by far in terms of regular season play over his career.

Big Ben is definitely the next best then everyone else.

Brady is the the best QB of this generation, period. Brees is suspect since all of his records were set inside a dome, sorry playing indoors in a climate controlled enviroment is not the same as setting records in Green Bay, Denver, or Foxbourgh.

I have the same opinion on all dome QBs. I think records set in places like Chicago, Denver or Green Bay are more impressive because you have to take wind and other enviromental factors into account when throwing.
