Shaw has been hurt the whole year. But even when healthy I don't think he can make the throws that Dylan can. And Dylan makes the throw based on where the receiver is going vs. waiting until after he's open. But Shaw adds a dimension to the running game that most teams can't prepare for.

Not to toot my own horn, I've said since the second game of the season Dylan will likely take us to the next level. Very little experience, no Clemson D isnt Bama but they played above themselves last night
His arm is much bigger, he's a little too patient but that opens deep routes, he's smart as a whip as well. I love Shaw for his toughness, I love his speed and his zone read ability. I think, however, Dylan gives us the best chance to really threaten

Look I think we all respect Connor. He IS a gamer and he's got the best winning record of any QB in Gamecock history in terms of percentage with more than a handful of starts.
However Connor DOES frustrate a lot of us with his obvious hesitancy to just throw the ball sometimes. However, if Coach Spurrier starts the guy, then there is a reason for it. Shaw may not win many games with his arm, but he won't lose many either because he'd just not going to make too many bad throw decisions. Dylan is a slinger. He just THROWS the damn ball. Sometimes that will get you what we saw against Clemson. Sometimes that will lose you a game if the defense plays well. All said I like the fact that we now have so many options. It IS a great time to be a Gamecock. Let's let these guys enjoy the game...and as for me YEA I prefer Dylan's style of QB, but man you can't argue with the success Shaw has. I hope we have the kind of QB problem we have right now for a longgggg time!

No. There should be no controversy. The Job should be Dylan's

This could just be my perspective with the 4 qb's we have it'll make for a good winter workouts and spring camps. Dylan had a decent game and NOONE should knock that. But as stayed he hasn't been tested enough for me. Connor is tried and true his heart is almost bigger than our offensive line. He is lethal when he is on and we can't forget the Shaw of Ole who would scan the back feild picking the reciever who was gonna burn the opossing secondary. I know this thread would pop up. Do I have a clear pick to who should take our snaps no. That's not my place to decide and frankly noone would care. But lets not be so quick to put our workhorse out to pasture

The people that bring up the Florida game fail to mention that Dylan put up similar statistics as Connor AND he was put in a situation where he had nothing to do but pass. Florida wasn't going to play the run so they just teed off on him and Dylan still made some good throws in that 2nd half.
You are kidding yourself if you don't see a noticeable difference between the two guys and our offense as a whole. Also notice how involved Spurrier was last night with directing traffic. Its because he is in a comfort zone when he is calling his offense and not trying this pseudo-spread option/fun n gun crap where he has to ask Elliott/Mangus/Bubba 'hey, we want to run or pass here?' I kind of talked about this earlier this year but I'm also starting to be completely convinced that Connor can't see over the offensive line. I think his size severely limits his ability to see the entire field. Mangus mentioned creating more 'natural' throwing lanes few weeks ago when he was asked about moving the pocket with Connor. I don't think its any coincidence that when Thompson is in the game that the space between the hashes magically appears. IMO, if they are stuck on Connor Shaw being the starter then maybe it is time for Mangus to call plays. Lets fully commit to the spread option because that is the only way we are going to get max production from Connor. But we all know Spurrier won't do that so, IMO, why keep handicapping yourself? Play the guy that is going to do what you ask. Which means Connor is going to have to find a way to start getting the ball off.

I get your point C2, but I really hope we don't commit to the spread option. Clemson knew exactly how to defend the zone read last night, and our running game had no alternative. Thank goodness Dylan can sling the ball.

To me, no...Dylan's two wins came against similiar opponents in UAB and Clemson.
Now, if he beat Florida, or Georgia, or Tennessee then we would have a controversy. It will be an interesting winter and spring with Connor, Dylan, Nosovitch and Mitch. I feel very good in the depth and talent at QB now though, and Dylan is a solid option.

No, there is no QB controversity. Dylan played great as a backup, but this is Connors team.

Can we genetically combine the two? Is that legal, and if so, how do we do it and will they agree to it?

The announcers spoke very briefly about Nosovitch last night. They said that he had been "tearing it up in practice". Does anyone know if this is true? Could Nosovitch be in the mix during Spring Drills?

It's great to have 2 even possibly 3-4 quarterbacks to contend for the starting position next year.
The real answer is trust in Spurrier. The next thing is if Shaw wins out and is having a bad night the best thing to do is let the backups know that they should be ready to go beast mode, because Spurrier can now do what he did in Florida with Qb's that underperformed during a game lol :) |

By looking at Connor on the sideline last night I got the feeling that his foot was not the only reason Dylan started. I love Connor and have defended him all season but right now I'm not so sure he's our best option. He's a tough as nails player and when healthy can run the read option as well as anybody but his passing game does hold him back. Dylan threw some ugly balls last night but they were few and far between and he does let it go instead of running at first sign of danger. I agree that Connor's hieght does limit him in the pocket. With Nosovitch tearing it up in practice, Mitch comming in early this Spring, and Dylan throwing the ball as well as he is Shaw's days as the starter may be done.
