The Moment Things Changed

2009. We were limping in against Clemson after sneaking by Vandy, getting thumped by not showing up at UT and Arkansas, and losing to Florida. Clemson was rolling, had Spiller, and had won their division. And had beaten us the previous 2 years.

Game starts with CJ Spiller running the opening kickoff back for a TD. Then Garcia throws a pick deep in Clemson territory. Clemson starts driving back down the field, then Akeem Auguste forced a fumble by Jamie Harper that Norwood recovered.

And thats when it changed. The moment that I look back to started the last 4 years was when Spurrier put Stephon Gilmore in the wildcat for the first time all season. 2 plays into the drive a true freshman corner that is playing a wildcat QB, throws a deep ball to a true freshman Alshon Jeffery that he went up and caught. Gilmore steps out, Garcia back in, option play to Maddox, tie game. Next Clemson drive, Holloman got a pick to set up another TD.

And the Gamecocks haven't looked back since. 34-17 was the final that day. 29-7 the next year in Memorial Stadium. 34-13 in Columbia last year and a backup QB turns into a legend under the lights in the biggest rivalry game in it's history.

I don't where we would be if we don't force that fumble and Gilmore doesn't lead that drive. That could have easily been 5 straight losses to end that year with the UConn disaster. Could have been 3 straight to them. But 4 in a row feels so sweet. Go Cocks!!!

How do so many ppl forget that we gave spiller two chances on the run back. Had we not been called for offsides, which could be called on every kickoff, that game isn't even close.

I think we can all agree that Spurrier's call to put Gilmore in on that drive was one of his best calls as a coach here. Goo points and great post Eagle

I can't. But how much better did we all feel that offseason for beating Clemson instead of losing to them and UConn? Clemson gave us so much momentum even with the loss to UConn.

Several years ago, I think it was Spurrier's first or so... he said we have to get some of those big time players. Now we do and clem's son does not,,, we have passed them in every way and we're not looking back. So long tigers!

The moment SOS picked up his first golf club is when everything changed. He wouldn't be here and none of this would be happening if not for that. His Cha Cha Slide performance was key as well.
