They are both good hard working kids. I favor Dylan since he is able to hit his second and third options on a play. Connor seem takes off running as soon as his first option is unavailable.
Also, Dylan reminds me of one of Spurrier's Florida quarterbacks. He can miss on first and second down but still can convert 3rd and long routinely. His margin for error seems to be greater than Connor since Connor tends to grind it out in smaller chunks. |

While we as fans all seem to have our opinions on who is the best QB (and yes I have mine), who should start the bowl game, who should be our starter next season? etc etc
Has anyone thought about what the QB's themselves really want? We know Shaw wants to be the starter and is willing to live, eat, sleep, spend his summers in Columbia, live in the film room, etc to be that starting QB. That is his mentality and what makes him what he is. Now Dylan, does he want to be the full time QB for a season. Stay in Columbia thru the summer, spend every waking moment during the season thinking, eating, sleeping, studying football? I haven't heard anyone say anything about him regarding that. I've just read where he is happy he can come in and play when needed and win. Some kids don't see football as their LIFE, but as a game they play with their friends (even at a high level) and just love to play the game when they can. I'm not saying anything bad about either one (think they are both great QB's for different reasons). But I would like to know from any of you that know both young men how they feel about all this starter talk. Seems Shaw doesn't like being on the sidelines, but Dylan seems ok as long as he has his faith, getting his education, and gets to play when needed and enjoying the W's with his friends. Just something to talk about while we wait to see where we are going bowling. Beats talking down about either of these fine young men. |

That was the plot to Blue Mountain State. An awesome TV show. The only difference was the back up QB only wanted to do enough work to get the benefits of the QB status, girls and awesome parties. |

Here's what's going to happen next year. When we're ahead, SOS will play CS to utilize his running ability to work the clock. When we're behind, he'd use DT because he has the better arm.

What I don't understand is how all you people think that Connor has peaked at QB. Don't get me wrong, I'm real happy that Dylan played a great game and that our QB controversy isn't who throws the fewest int's anymore but remember Connor has played injured all year so we really don't know what he's capable of. I do know that Spurrier chose a healthy Thompson over a injured Shaw and who knows maybe there's more to it than that but until I see a healthy Shaw play again I'm not counting him out. Competition will make both players better but the truth is that niether one of them is all SEC at this time.
We also don't know how good Nosovitch is but everything I've read has been really good. For all we know he could be the next Johnny Manzell, I mean he did break all those Pennsylvania state records. And don't look twice but here comes Connor Mitch who looks to be the perfect fit for Spurrier's Fun-N-Gun offense plus he will be here for Spring practice. We finally have real competition at the QB position and as of right now like it or not Shaw is the #1 guy going foward until Spurrier makes a perminant change. Until then how about we give Shaw a bit of well deserved credit for what he's accomplished here. And if he gets beat out remember that it's not a bad thing, it just means we are one step closer to winning the SEC.

gripitandripit2007, when exactly has Dylan Thompson had a chance at proving himself against better defenses? Against Florida, after we had already laid a big stinky egg, and not having had the opportunity to work with first team? Against Vanderbilt, when he and Connor were playing musical quarterbacks?
Connor has had the opportunities, and for the most part has been a game manager. We never have to score that many points thanks to our d, so that has worked out fine for him for the most part. Against LSU though, when we asked more of him, be didn't come through. Dylan, on the other hand, had no real support from the running game, on the road in the house of orange, and he delivered.y |

Umm being Delusion is what this comment makes me. The legit statement was said. DT looks like he love being on the field . Connor has his game face( I'm pissed look) all the time. Dt is a player and im glad he showed the world that he can run as well.

But sorry, I didn't remember ever seeing a TV show with that name. Anyway, just something to talk about. I don't really see either of these guys having bad work ethics or being just after girls and parties. |

I stayed away from this thread until I had a chance to re-watch the game.
Dylan was even more impressive the second time. He did miss a couple of short passes to the flat that hurt his completion percentage but He went through his reads masterfully. Buying time by moving in the pocket Often hitting his second or third option (in stride). See Bruce's 2nd td for one beautiful example of this. He was in control. No delay of game (the only time we burned timeouts is when the coaches didn't get him the play). No alignment problems. I think he checked to the swing pass to Kenny on 3rd and 12 that went for like 30 yards when he saw Clemson misaligned. C2 is right when he says Spurrier has more comfort calling plays for Dylan's skill set vs. Connor's I hate to say it but I can see both playing from here on out with Dylan getting most of the snaps.

When don't we have one? We will have good competition, and I like that prospect.

Connor played hurt much of this year. I would cut him some slack because he did the best he could with his injuries. When Connor is full speed, he is tough to contain. I like Dylan too. I wouldn't have a problem using them both next year. |

It does make you wonder though with Shaw injured, why Dylan hasn't played more...What if...LSU??? Beat them, we don't lose to Florida...and we all know where that puts us. But, that is just speculation. Spurrier had his reasons and I do trust him, so, these are just things to ponder during the offseason.

Speaking for myself, I just have a whole heck of a lot of more fun watching Dylan throw the ball all over the place to our playmakers than I do watching Connor's conservative style of play. Last year, Connor seemed to be growing as a QB game by game, and I had a lot of hope that he would spend the summer working on his passing game. But this year, whether because of his injuries or some other reason, he has become a very tentative passer. He pulls the ball down and runs so often when a wide receiver is running wide open down the field. After a while, this just gets old. And the frustrating thing is that Connor doesn't seem to exhibit any awareness of the fact that when he does this, he takes away the opportunity over and over again for other talented players on the team to make a play. In short, Connor comes across as a "ball hog." While this is a tolerable trait when the team is winning, it becomes very annoying when we start to lose. Plus, it's just boring to watch after awhile. As a fan, I'm truly grateful for all Connor has given to Carolina, but I want to see him develop his passing game and give our wide receivers a chance to do their thing. Ace Sanders alone is so talented and such a blast to watch that I'll be really disappointed if he just gets a couple touches a game next year because Connor refuses to throw the ball. Then there's Bruce. And Shaq Roland. And Byrd. And the guys we redshirted this year. You get the idea.

A QB completes 56% of his passes, throws a pick, gets sacked 4 times for a loss of 35 yards and engineers 27 points against a D that gave up 48 the prior week to a middle of the pack ACC team.....
Meanwhile, our D shuts down a high flying attack and won the game for us. Clowney SEC lineman of the week and co-defensive player of the week. Hello... |

Throws for 300 yards and 3 scores on the road at night on primetime television in his 2nd career start and tears off multiple runs to keep drives alive then makes a clutch throw to ice the game late in the 4th quarter. Oh and the offense held the ball for 39 mins opposed to NCSTs ~28 mins the week before.
Hello.

Shaw has started his last game I believe. Thompson is more of the qb that Spurrier wants.
