I guess it was a little before I was big on the college football scene, but did the VA legislature want the two schools in the same conference, or did it want them in the best situation possible in reference to what conference they were in? My understanding is that VT wanted into the ACC, and the Virginia Legislature told UVA they couldn't block it from happening. If some of these other moves happen as they are being discussed, the ACC WILL die, and the Virginia schools will be left in the cold if the legislature tries to make them a package deal.

If we take two ACC schools I was NC State and VT.

Nebraska is directly to the west of Iowa (Big10), and the south border of Nebraska is on the same lattitude line as the middle of Ohio, Illinois, and Indiana (all Big10). Your argument would have made more sense regarding their addition of Rutgers.

It's a West Virginia blogger who is revealing what a source said. However, he might not be totally wrong because West Virginia people have been concerned with expansion for awhile, even though the Mountaineers have gone to the Big 12 recently.

As for the Big Ten contacting the schools, it is the other way around. The schools are contacting them. No conference is going to be accused of tampering with another's members for legal reasons, although it not out of the realm of possibility that a discussion off the record may have occurred.

Clemson officials did received an invitation to join the Southern Conference, they thought he said Southeastern Conference.

They were eager to play Western Carolina and Elon, but asked that Wofford, App St, and Georgia So be moved to the west division.

I hope this isn't the start of the next wave of crazy rumors.

Remember last year's expansion talks? ESPN had a new rumor every couple of hours and even reported at one point that Clemson was going to join the SEC.

David Glenn from ACCSportsJournal said last week he was running down a story on the fact that the Big 10 had contacted two other ACC schools in addition to Maryland. They obviously didn't get a yes but they may not have received a no either. Took a while for mizzou and A&M to come to fruition. Would be cool to add two teams to the east that are in easy driving distance for Gamecock fans and move mizzou over. We would be about right in the middle of the eastern division teams/recruiting markets if we added a team from NC and VA.

There's some rumblings in VA about an emergency Board of Visitors meeting today at UVA regarding Big 10 membership.

UNC is and always will be a BB school. BB schools like Duke and UNC will always run the ACC. The schools just added are BB schools, and UConn is now being considered as a replacement for MD (men's and women's) BB schools. The FB programs in the ACC will continue their tumble down. No way UNC will leave the ACC as long as they still make basketballs.

That's because UVA knows that Va Tech won't wait a moment to ditch them and the ACC for any offer. Ironic that UVA was basically forced by state legislature to get Va Tech into the ACC and now both of them will likely be in other conferences within the next 5 years.

at the moment they are 12 with the addition of Rutgers/ and Maryland they are 14 with possible UVA they are 15. I think they are asking more then they intend to add because they think they will get rejected by some schools, especially UNC.

If the B1G were to add 2 more (over the MD/Rutgers additions) - wouldn't they snag Pitt and 'Cuse? Those 2 fit the B1G profile, and are basically unaffiliated as they're leaving the Big East and haven't signed into the ACC yet...

UVA actually would fit into the Big 10 quite well.... I know this, they would have the DC/Baltimore market covered with UVA and MD.

With regard to 4 superconferences, that would make each of the winners most likely eligible for the 4 team playoff. It would also make the conference championships a play in game....as with the SEC this year. You think the rest of the nation isn't taking note of that?
