Horrible.

As head coach: 13 years (went to state 9 of those years)

I think I have my stats right; it might have only been 6 years at Chesterfield with one runner up.
Slow down for a second, guys. I know what Taneyhill has accomplished. My comment about winning 1 state title was in general for any coach (referencing the OP) and then being "proven."

For the record, I covered HS football in South Carolina for quite a few years for various outlets and was on the staff of a forum you probably all frequent...so I am not some dummy on the topic.

At any rate, I still think you should understand that winning 5 state championships in high school (especially SCISA and Class A) and winning 80 games in 10 seasons isn't exactly transitive...although certainly a great accomplishment.

The amount of wins he has accumulated also isn't unheard of. For example, Dwayne Garrick has over 90 wins in 9 head coaching seasons.

Look at what all Bobby Bentley had to accomplish before even starting to be taking seriously for moving up to the next level.

It is simply something that just rarely happens, honestly. Don't know exactly why. The ladder into college coaching is more of a Grad Assistant --> Position Coach rather than High School Head Coach --> Position Coach.

I understand. I think he would be better suited going to a college not as a head coach first (like Bentley). Some small college needs to get him in as an OC (not a QB coach - that is ZERO control, and he won't accept that).

Sorry, wasn't trying to jump down your throat.

Also, for the record with Bentley, it's one thing to have a system in high school football, but it's a whole different thing to have a system rooted from pee-wee league up through high school (which is what Bentley did). IMO, Taneyhill would far MUCH better. He teaches kids in a lot less time. He doesn't ask pee-wee coaches and middle school coaches to build the groundwork for his system.

Taneyhill came to chesterfield in 2005. Left in 2011. Played in 4 title games. Won 3.

^ thank ya!

Also, for the record, I'm not blasting Bentley. He's a great HS coach and seemed to be a class act the times I met him. Some coaches are made for different levels.

We'll have to wait and see with Taneyhill with regards to that last point.

Are you trying to convince us that a SC High School coach gets paid anywhere near as much as even a position coach at the college level?

Bentley is a smart guy. He went with the proven Texas HS system and fed his program with kids who'd grown up in his system. That's because several high-profile little league teams, and his C and JV teams, ran that same system after he installed it for them. This is brilliant and it's frigging amazing more teams don't do this.

Taneyhill, on the other hand, seems to have the ability to take a group of kids and immediately make them better. That's a gift. His dad has it, and it appears he does, too.

HS coaches that win and enter college are becoming much more common. Just recently we have

Art Briles
Gus Malzahn
Chad Morris
Todd Dodge

Even our own Frank Martin did it in basketball. Todd Dodge is really the only failure on the list.

That is 4 out of thousands and thousands. I didn't say it was impossible, but it still very very rare.

Does he teach any classes? That seems kind of high for a HS coach.
